'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Seville Confirm Luna Interest

Seville have confirmed that they are close to striking a deal with Aston Villa over the transfer of Antonio Luna.

I'm sure if a deal is done, the young left back will be over the moon!

Director of Football Ramon Verdejo has commented on the speculation linking us with the player:

'It is true that we are close to finalising his move to Aston Villa.'

Quote - Birmingham Mail.

That's all we have so far, but following the announcement today of Nicklas Helenius it sounds like we'll have another signing sorted before the end of the week.

I'll be over moon if Luna joins us. Bennett needs some competition if he is to become half decent.

Bennett does need competition. Although I see last season as a learning one for him, he was clearly out of his depth alot of the time. We can only hope that defensively we are much more secure, as I do not want to go through the experience we had at most home games again next season.

Be interesting. I still think the same mistakes will be repeated with young, not experienced and not ready, but transfer window isn't closed for a long long time so I live in hope!

He looks very very similar to Bennett. Let's hope that he's better. AND, think that you'll be waiting a long time Fear, he got away with it last season but now is not the time for experienced older players. That time is gone. This squad will have enough experience, quality and still youth in a couple of years time. Bit extreme but I'd rather this way than we end up with a team of 30 year olds on mega money with no sell on value. Bit gutted that we're going away from MON's team full of British players aswell but needs must, it's a sign of the times and we've tried it the other way and it didn't work!!

I thought Bennett was improving game on game last season, so a bit of competition will only serve to increase his concentration IMHO.

I don't agree Fear....I believe that the players gained the experience necessary last season and this will help the new players next season...

Agree as others have said we proved the players gained experience last season after their showing since January which is top 8 form. No need for aging players to take us backwards now. Also it looks like all our transfers are going to get a full pre season that does not happen often and will stand us well. Its such a refreshing change having Lambert in charge. He is doing everything I have wanted Villa to do for the last 20 years. Just hope we can keep hold of him long term.

I believe that so far this is the best AVFC transfer window in 20 years. In fact probably the best transfer window of any club for many years. Think about it - for +- 10 million pounds we have purchased 3 players who have broken into their national teams, 1 who has represented the Netherlands in all their Junior national levels and potentially Luna who has done the same for Spain. We complain about experience yet these players have played more matches then almost the entire core of our current team. Tonev and Bacuna have played almost as many matches as Stephen Ireland!!! Okore has champions league experience. Tonev and Helenius have Europa league experience. Helenius was the voted player of the season in the Danish league. Compare this to James Mccarthy - 22 years old, +- 100 games (only more than Okore), relegated with Wigan, 15 international matches with Ireland and costs 14 million pounds!!!! We just bought 4 players with as much potential and experience as him with 1 more incoming for less money!!! You know what - if Helenius fails, 2 million pounds lost... Wow - probably less than Bent's wages. Okore - 4 million. Half Steve Sidwell's purchase price. Tonev 3.2 million. Less than what we paid for Hutton... Just imagine if 1 of these players reach their potential and becomes the next Benteke. Massive. And if all 4/5 do... For 10 million pounds, we have bought that possibility... What other transfer window matches up to that!

I admire the optimisim if nothing else Astriel... Rule nothing out til I see them play.. I have massive hopes for Okore and Im very optimistic about Tonev as for the rest the jury is still out but Il not bash them til I see a cluster of bad performances...

I hope to be proved incorrect but I don't think Bennett has what it takes and he will not be good enough nexy year either... Matty Lowton had F all competition and look at wht he produced consistently... Bennett has not got the mettle for the premiership...

To be fair, Bennett was looking better towards the end of the season. More competition is what he needs; this season will be his make or break, it should be obvious by halfway whether he can actually step up or not. I would also like to be proved wrong but.. I doubt he can improve enough. Excited about all these signing though ! UTV

Im loving this. Where are we suddenly pulling all this young talent out of the bag from? Certainly different from previous managers!

CDX_Eire. That is what is phenomenal with this transfer window. Is even if every single one of our signings flop, we should be able to recover most of the money spent. What is the risk for us? When I look at the pedigree of these players, I am shocked at what we have spent... I would rather us take a risk on 4/5 players from Europe with massive potential then buy 1 average premier league player. We can't spend 40/50 million on a Falcao or Neymar. Buying average overpaid EPL players doesn't work either.
