Giant Striker Joins Villa!

Giant Striker Joins Villa!

Linked several times, now 6ft 5ins Denmark striker Nicklas Helenius has signed for AVFC....

What is going on? The press are getting the links right this summer! quote Villa manager Paul Lambert saying the 22-year-old from Danish club Aalborg BK has a good record and will make a good addition to the squad.

He`s signed a three year deal keeping him at Villa until the summer of 2016.

Helenius is team mates with another new recruit, Jores Okore.

"Nicklas is a young lad but also a full international with a good goalscoring record in Denmark and he'll prove himself in the Premier League. The opportunity will be there for him, as it will be for the rest of the lads, and he has all the attributes to go and take it. He wants to go and make a name and a career for himself and he's made a good start at Aalborg. It's a case of continuing to work hard and building on that and I believe he can. He's a good player and the potential is there for him to grow into the team and grow with the team. He'll definitely be able to give the team a hand."

The official site also state that he`s got 16 goals in 33 league appearances last season and set up seven goals.

Helenius has called the move a "big dream` and a 'big opportunity` for him.

"I know we have a young team and I know we came through a test last season and got better as a team over the course of the campaign. I watched the game against Liverpool at Anfield and was very impressed by the way the team played. As we got more confidence in the game, we became better and better and won 3-1 with some great attacking football."

He is also looking forward to the 'incredible` atmosphere at Villa Park.

Ending, "I want to show the fans that I'm hungry for this and that I'm very proud to be a Villa player."

Matt Kendrick interviewed a Danish football correspondent the other week, Click Here

Click the link for the full interview. The one question that interested me was:

Is he ready for the Premier League?

is a difficult one, because I don`t want it to sound like he won`t be a success in the Premier League. He could well be. He has the attributes and I hope he does well.

It is just that Villa fans should not expect a ready-made Premier League striker straight away. We haven`t seen him tested at the highest level yet and it might have been better for him to develop playing in somewhere like the Dutch league first. It will suit him and Villa if they let him learn slowly rather than putting too much pressure on his shoulders.

It will be really interesting to see how he gets on against defenders like Vincent Kompany and Nemanja Vidic.

He has potential, but he has lots to learn and needs to develop his physique and all-round game. I don`t think he is quite as ready for the Premier League as Jores Okore yet.

Like his attitude, if he works hard and gets stuck into the PL, I'm sure he will become a decent player for us.

Happy with this signing as well as the other 3, a great summer so far.
18/06/2013 15:40:00
So pleased, this guy could be a massive signing if he can adapt, genuinely excited!

Another good signing imo, He looks like he can play a bit on the floor and he is physically big enough so cant see why he cant be a good player for us if he is given a chance. He is also saying all the right things again which is good to hear. It seems Lambert has a good eye for a good character... exciting season ahead with all these young lads keen to impress. The other thing I like about lambert signing is they nearly all have a good long range shot on them which is something we have missed. How many times have we lost or drew form the opposition banging in a goal from way out and out of nothing. Hopefully we will have players to do the same now.

Is he the new peter crouch? if so hope we keep hold of him.
18/06/2013 16:40:00
This is the best vid of him I know its lower quality league but I have a feeling this guy is going to be one massive bargain. He can shoot in and out of the box, can see and make a pass and also looks like he has a fast turn of pace. Will look forward to keeping benteke and seeing these play together. Teams will have trouble marking us at corners for a change.

I see this as the ready made replacement for Tekkers . . . . . . not for this season, but for the season after. I think he will be given games during the season to held him build up and adapt and that he will replace Tekkers who is likely to leave at the end of next season. If that is the case then it is a shrewd move by PL and good forward planning.

Can't see that link from here revue but if that's the one that I saw before, he looks different class. Agree VOTH that he will probably replace big Chris at some point but think that he can be as good as him anyway!!! Good planning by PL also in getting a couple of Danes in as they can adapt to the country and league better together, as Bacuna will benefit from Concrete being here!!!

Not agreeing with the Danish correspondent atall though. If they're good enough then play them in the top league ASAP and let them know what they need to aspire to. It's a short career and I'm sure he doesn't want to waste a season playing with more sausage sellers. If he's not good enough then so be it and we move on, got a good feeling about him though.
