Skipper Honoured By 'Stan Petrov Day'

Skipper Honoured By 'Stan Petrov Day'

Stiliyan Petrov has said it will be some sight when almost 4000 Villans wear replica masks in his honour at Wigan on the final day of the season.

Speaking to the Official Site our retiring skipper thanked fans for yet another support event for him, but admitted he more than sees the humour in it:

'I have seen the masks. They look nothing like me at the moment! It's really funny, it will be funny and weird to see my face on 4000 other people. I will really enjoy it.'

Stan adds that it'll be even more enjoyable now that the lads are safe from relegation because he knows the fans can just go to the game and enjoy it for what it is, as opposed to worrying about the scoreline.

He also talked about the lap of appreciation following the Chelsea game, admitting that it was difficult to hold back the tears:

'I was surprised I was able to hold my tears. I was almost there. It was so emotional saying bye, I was nervous. When I walked on the pitch and the fans were there with their posters singing my name it was incredible.'

Can't wait for the day. Blackpool Saturday night. Lunch with Sean Teale on matchday and a good old rocking Villa fan party on the terraces during the game. I fully intend to go home without a voice. UTV. The 19th minute.
