'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Some Pleasing Surprises At Awards Night

I postulated (that's a good word innit!) some of the potential award winners earlier tonight, and thankfully those deserving of praise got it at the dinner tonight.

Brad Guzan was named Players' Player of the Season and Supporters' Player of the Season.

The latter Terrace Trophy Award Guzan took after winning six Man of the Match votes, narrowly beating Andi to the Award. Mr Kicksave and our regular goal tender this campaign also finished as runner up in the Man of the Match votes on five occasions.

Guzan received 33 points, whilst Andi got 30 points. Benteke was on 26 points, somehow N'Zogbia got 18 points and Westwood got 17 points.

Christian Benteke took home the Players' Young Player of the Year, with Andi Weimann winning the Supporters' Young Player of the Year award.

Andi took the award with 51% of the vote, Benteke was 2nd with 44% and Nathan 'land on my head' Baker was third with 3%.

Matt Lowton's baby inducing strike against Stoke City was a unanimous winner for Goal of the Season.

Unanimous doesn't need to mean 100% thesedays, but Lowton secured 83% of the vote. Andi's goal against Liverpool received 10%, and his goal against Manchester United received 2%.

There was also rightly a special presentation and award to our Champions of Europe - the U19 side for their Next Generation exploits.

Now let's just hope the season Awards dinner don't prove to be an omen taking place before the end of the erm actual season.

Bradley 'Goose' Guzan. Well deserved, son. That save from Chris Samba's corner bound strike was just incredible. Jaw dropping stuff. I can still see him arching up at it now.

Well done to all. It is beginning to look pretty safe over our shoulders now, so at least we can enjoy the results of the Awards.

Anything but an arsenal implosion and we are mathematically safe. Would be nice if Chelsea secure top four tonight so that we can sign off the home fixtures with a win.

What a result last night? as AVbornandbred said anything but an Arsenal implosion and we are fine. That being said remember Wigan v manure lat season? hopefully Chelsea will win tonight and then have both eyes on next wed. Looking forward to Sat a lot more than I had been. Great news Chew a lot is gone, COTVABU

What happened to the 'Best Beard' award?

Chocolate teapot - surely it must have been permanently awarded to Olof Mellberg

This time last season some fans were still defending Shay Given whilst a minority were adamant that Brad 'safe hands' Guzan should be the number 1. I am happy to come on here and say 'told you so'. Thankfully PL saw the light because with Shay between the sticks we would be already releagated imho. He is a decent shot stopper but that is it. In Safe Hands we have a goal keeper who is now almost Bossie like in his ability to command his box. The hard work and learning that went into his transformation from goalline keeper (as he was for the Blackburn Semi Final) to a keeper that now dominates his box is extra ordinary. He has developed into a top class keeper and we need him tied down to a long contract asap.
