Benteke's Riding The Crest Of A Wave

Benteke's Riding The Crest Of A Wave

Paul Lambert has tipped Christian Benteke to bag 20 league goals in a season and put himself in the company of Peter Withe who achieved it back in 1980-81.

Speaking to the Official Site with Benteke sitting pretty on 18 in the league, Lambert said it would be a phenomenal achievement for the Belgian if he could match 'The Shin's' record in his debut season.

'What Christian has done with his goalscoring exploits has been great. His all round game is good, he's playing really well and he's scoring which is the bonus. If he's in that sort of company - along with Withe - it shows what he's doing.'

Lambert says that Benteke is loving his football at the moment and that his confidence is 'on the crest of a wave' and at the moment he can't do anything wrong such is his form.

The word 'unplayable' is again correctly used.

Lambert does point out though that at 22 year olds, Benteke now has the test of proving that he can perform like this season in, season out - he still has that to prove. But what Lambert likes is Benteke is the first to admit he still has plenty to learn and plenty of development left in him before he can consider himself the completed player.

I just hope he stays at Villa Park where he'll improve his skills and at the same time have regular first team football.
