'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Villa Player Hinting At Being Happy Shocker?!?!

Mat Kendrick at www.birminghammail.co.uk has a top interview with none other than Christian Benteke.

Now then, putting 2+2 together is never a good thing in football, but is he saying that he owes Villa and the manager and hence, he`ll stay?!?!?

Obviously we`ve had his agent gobbing off (technical footballing term) through the season about this club and that club but Benteke has never said he wants out AND NOR SHOULD HE at this stage of his career.

He says he gives his all and wants to pay back Paul Lambert for showing faith in him and wanting him adding,

"I was keen to come here because the manager was so keen to have me here. It`s different when people want you."

He says he is living the dream because he has always wanted to play in the Premiership.

Ah... gulp... Hmmm. Then again, we`ll stay up... won`t we?!? (share the agony of >The Relegation Thread < )

And on his time so far, he adds,

"I think I have had a good start and I am full of confidence. For everybody, for me and for the club and for the fans, I think it has been good."

Good? Yup, I think we can safely say that 15 premiership goals for a rookie is 'good`... wonder if he can get to Peter Withes 20 in the League goal record?

He also says that he can handle the pressure, and if he couldn`t.... (this is good!)... "I`d be playing ping-pong!"

I could take him on at that. Then again, if he started to lose his temper at losing, I`m not sure if I`d be too happy to continue winning!?!??!

As you will see from the FULL INTERVIEW he is also sure that Villa can handle the relegation battle and get out of trouble.

Hope so, I`m not convinced he`d be as happy staying next season if we dropped. Then again, if he is a class act, he might and his strength would be a major asset, he`d also show himself to be a top character which would surely set him in good stead for the future.

There is every chance he will stay provided we are in the PL next season. COTVABU

I think it will be a bonus if he's here next season if we go down or not.

Does anybody else remember when CB first arrived at Villa Park and missed a few chances? I believe a number questioned why PL continued to play him rather than DB. Perhaps he knew something they didn't. Perhaps his judgement isn't as bad as some thought, and perhaps his backing of CB at that time was what gave him confidence enough to do what he has done for us. There are criticisms that can be levelled at PL - which of us is perfect - but his handling of the situation surrounding CB isn't one of them.
