Carruthers On Next Gen Quarter Final

Samir Carruthers might not yet have had the first team breakthrough many expected this season, but he's been a stand out performer for the U19's in the NextGen Series, and he appears to be enjoying the role of being one of the more experienced lads in this season's set up.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of tomorrows quarter final at Villa Park against Olympiacos, he said:

'Because we played in it last year, Tony McAndrew and Sean Verity look towards the likes of me, Burkey, Mikey Drennan and Derrick Williams as the experienced ones to help the new players who are playing in this competition for the first time. They want us to drive them on and help them.'

Carruthers says he felt that Villa were very comfortable against Ajax in the last round, but after sucessive away days, he's delighted this round is on home soil:

'We haven't played there for a while so it will be good to get back out there again. We're looking forward to getting back on that pitch in front of our home crowd and hopefully the supporters can help us. Last year when we played Marseille there were a few thousand at the stadium and it was a big boost for us.'

Lets hope a decent crowd turn up for the next match. It's important for these young guys and a good crowd cheering them on may push them onto the semi finals. Come on folks, get down there and support our future. You know it makes sense!.....

he's only 19,not ready for a full breakthrough yet, the youth set up I think time the entries of our younger players pretty well.
