Is this meant to be a serious article?
I hope not, because even for a red top, it is a bit of a disgrace really!
For a start The Daily Star call us the Villains.
How many times? We are not baddies. We are Villa. It isn`t Villains it is Villans!
And then they just say that Randy Lerner hasn`t been able to sell Villa because we aren`t sexy.
No, seriously, that is what a national paper has now stooped to.
NOBODY seems keen on buying out Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner. He may be called Randy, but there is nothing sexy about Villa right now.
For one thing, this reporter wouldn`t know if Randy was looking to sell or not, Randy doesn`t talk to this sort of press and even when it comes to transfers he and the board play their cards close to their chest. For another, does this reporter not realise that Newcastle was on the market for a good few years under Ashley and that Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright has made it clear that Everton is available for purchase and investment and yet no one has come forward.
It isn`t about being sexy, it is about having to wait for 'real` money to look to 'invest` in football clubs.
I say 'invest` because anyone who thinks there is actually money to be made out of this game is a mug!
Villa WOULD be one of the attractive options IF someone else comes in with big money like the Man City crew. I know this because unlike this 'non sexy` reporters info, I - as do most of you - understand football and understand the standing of Clubs plus what better time to grab a Club than when it is needing a bit of a resurrection?
Villa is set up right, infrastructure all done, massive catchment area, the home of the football league, great history, one of the greatest grounds in the country, and a superb fan base. How is that not 'sexy` to a potential purchaser?
The only way we`d really improve on Randy Lerner is the massive Chelsea/Man City sort of money and that, for many purists, has been the death of football anyway. Other than that, I think it is a case of being careful what you wish for. Football has changed, not really for the better, but you can see how ownership has changed over the years at many clubs owners came in with massive promises of money only not to really deliver. We`ve had some rotten seasons recently, since 'that` man left we`ve been in a tailspin and this season has been far from satisfactory, and I`ll not even mention last season, however those saying the owner should **** off and take his profit just don`t get it. There is no profit being made here. You also have to say money has been spent BUT that yes, we are at a crossroads now. We cannot keep dicing with relegation, if indeed we get out of this particular scrap. Randy has got some decisions to make investment wise
The owner did promise right at the get go he`d not hold us back, he was 'just` the custodian and if someone came along who could take us further, he`d listen. I`m sure that is still the case. Just a shame that the last three seasons and the decisions over managers has damaged his reputation amongst Villa fans. We could do worse than him, remains to be seen in the future if we can do better. For me, football is a broken, the Premiership has become a closed shop without ridiculous money being spent and there isn`t that much ridiculous money about. Not that we`ve been cheap, the one season we were the top spenders in Europe, just the brakes have gone on since and that has depressed us as we have seen our best players leave.
I often get asked by pm if there is any truth that this group or that group are looking to buy us. You get the 'itk`s` saying we are set for this takeover and that takeover. All total rubbish but people fall for it time and time again.
This report suggests Randy has actively put us on the market. My info disagrees with that and I`d back my info over this reporters any day of the week, month or year. You don`t have to actively have a Club like this on the market, if someone wants to buy it, they know where it is and who to approach!
Ramble over. Just had to laugh at such a bad report and felt like a rant!
