Benteke's Attitude Is Spot On

Gabby Agbonlahor has said that Christian Benteke's attitude is spot on in training and he's looking forward to seeing him develop with us over he next few years.

Contentious point for many fans with Benteke's agents recent words and all the rumours, but hey, he's under contract, we'll deal with that if he says the immortal words...

Speaking to the Official Site Gabby admitted that a lot of Premier League teams wouldn't mind him being in their squad, but that just shows how well he's adapted to life in the Premiership and shows the future he'll have ahead of him.

'He's come into the league and no one knew much about him, hes just adapted. He works hard in training, his composure is excellent, every aspect of his game is top quality.'

Gabby adds that Benteke is still learning his trade, given his age, and with how good a first season he has had with us, he only sees him getting better in seasons to come with us.

We all hope that'll be the case!

PLEASE STAY BENTEKE
Gruck
Gabby may not be the best, but he's decent and has a loyalty rare in modern footballers...I'd rather keep him than merceneries like Benteke...even if he is a great striker. I've loved watching Benteke, a real breath of fresh air, but if he can't even give us two seasons, he can p*** off.
MASON_PARKER
Hopefully he gives us another season, one has to ask the question if he goes who will be next season star ? then the usual 15 good games at Villa and he'll be linked with every top team. The revolving door of our best players leaving has to be stopped.

We've got to pay him more to stay. Simple really. All very good having this wage structure BUT we'll never have any decent players if they're only paying peanuts FFS. Bencht is probably on twice as much and Dunne hasn't even been to Bodymoore Heath this season so it's clear to Benteke that you can make more money. He's not going to win anything here in the near future so why else would he want to stay. Villa under Randy haven't exactly made themselves a global brand with fans everywhere either so we aren't going to find anyone who wants to play for us through thick and thin like Gabbooooy.

We need to start steering this club up the league table and beyond next season, Paul Lambert has worked his socks off and has placed massive trust in this young squad, if we stay up then we will be getting rid of a lot of high earners that are doing nothing in our squad. We have got rid of Hutton and Warnock with Given, Dunne, Makoun, Petrov, Ireland and Bent likely to be joining them out the door. We then have our current squad to build upon and get those signing that Paul missed with the extra TV money along with the sales we make. There is no reason why we cannot hold onto Benteke and build a team around him that is already ongoing.

Dunne hasn't been to BMH this season ??? WTF are you on about Villan444 ?? ....... Benteke has been OK in some games and poor in most including the cup games against Bradford so I think its getting hyped up a bit now. I believe he'll suffer second season syndrome because he isn't anywhere near the finished article. Weimann has been just as impressive this season and is improving by the game. If he wants out and City or Chelsea offer £20m + I'd take it and reinvest into the squad. Spurs and Arsenal can't or won't pay big money for him. He knew the remit and what Lambert was doing stripping back the squad and rebuilding so obviously isn't interested in us just his own bank account, his agent too.
astonmilan
.............. Villa 4 Ever I agree with you except for the Dunne bit, his experience at top level is invaluable to the squad and younger players so I think he should stay. UTV

we will see!
The Fear
No idea why you've got a hard on for Dunne astonmilan. You seem to be defending the top own goal scorer in Prem history who hasn't kicked a ball for us this season (hence my remark about him not going to Bodymoore sherlock!!!) Andi has been very good for us but Benteke is a fair bit ahead in his development, game time for us, for Genk, Internationals and goals also. Second season syndrome will not happen as he's getting better ( as you say, he's not the finished article.) He is unplayable at times, no doubt and the more consistency the better.
Villan444
Still confused .... He is an experienced defender at the highest level and has been at Bodymoor all season with the physio's due to his injury. If he had been fit along with Vlaar this season we almost certainly would be at least 9 points better off. As for players coming in a making a stir, look at Ba, Cisse, Carrol etc ... only the very best succeed season after season ie: Rooney, RVP, Suarez, Tevez, Aguero so if Benteke can emulate this for us then even better for his long term value to the club..... also a quick note: a hard on is normally obtained by looking at Kelly Brook in lingerie and not a Premier League footballer ..... well it is for me anyway Villan444, you're entitled to do what you want in your spare time though mate ;) UTV

444 got to disagree with giving benteke more money. He's likely signed a 4-year contract, which means he has more than 3 years left! You dont renew a contract after 1 season! Also, have you looked at how many goals we have conceeded this season? If Dunne had been fit (He's been injured), then we would almost certainly have a smaller figure in the 'goals against' column!
thorpyuk
Astonmilan I'd rather bring back Mellberg than Dunne, Sorry but Dunne for me started looking slow and inconsistent towards MON's last season, and let's not forget the howlers he and James produced over the last couple of years. Dunne is also very injury prone the faster we get him off the 50-60k he is on the better. It will allow us to bring in a solid defender who isn't injured all the time.
Villa 4 Ever
I'm with 444 guys...Dunne has been in decline for ages...if it were John Terry then I'd agree about experience. Benteke has carte blanch to be patchy in his virgin season but to put as many goals away as he has, in a poor poor side is credit to him and in my book we could and should combine a payrise with a new contract to ward off potential suitors.
koolbill
Lol Astonmilan. Kelly brook all day for me too. Glad we agree!! Just think that Dunne is past it now. Eire were shocking at the Euros and largely due to him and Given!! RE: Benteke pay rise, I just think that we need to, to keep him even for another year. This would give us more bargaining power if and when he leaves, it will ensure a better fee for him. Nothing wrong with rewarding star performers. Too many of our players have had the upper hand in negotiations. I'm not saying break the bank but credit and reward where it's due.
Villan444
Got to agree we must call time on Dunne he was part of the team that got beat 7 at chelsea a couple of seasons ago so we might have been 1 goal better off allowing for ogs & pens given away. His experiance will count for nothing next season,by then the younger players will have had a full season in the prem. As for Benteke like most would love him to stay but pretty sure a move will take place either forced or the owner making a profit.
Merlin128777
I think Dunne is getting past it, just believe his experience would have been handy whilst blooding in two young fullbacks this season that's all. Clark and Baker are definite talents and the future of our club but asking them to evolve whilst getting Lowton and Bennett up to pace has been a bit much. It's cost us this year especially with near to zero protection from midfield. I'd keep Dunne but on much lower wages if possible, players get slower but the knowledge is something you can't buy. Just being there to guide Clark would have benefited us this season. UTV

It will take a pretty penny for anyone to tek tekkers. Lets just see if we can manage to survive and see what happens in the summer.
