Lambert On Huge Win

Paul Lambert is a very happy man as you can imagine tonight, three points, many were worried we wouldn't get another three points all season, let alone in one game.

I didn't get chance to cover this yesterday, but Lambert almost made another rod for his own back with one interview he gave to the official site head of the game, where he said:

'We need five or six wins, we are going to have to. The way they are playing at the minute, they can do that. There's no grey area, there are 13 cup finals for us to play. It's never wavered, my belief, whether people have said things or not. I've got to have that belief with the way I think about the team, that's the belief we will get out of it. We've had some heavy knocks, the lads have kept their heads up and kept their dignity which I think is a great thing as well, but we have to keep going and get out of it.'

Now with the game today that could've seriously come back to bite him in the immediate aftermath of yet another loss, but thankfully we managed to pull this one through.

With Lambert saying everybody knows we are a threat, but we need to take our chances and lock up more at the back, today wasn't a good example of that. Two odd shots on target, but we did keep it tighter at the back, which against a side like West Ham, their physical nature and style of play is a big positive.

We have one of the six Lambert talked about, we absolutely have to get the other five and preferably sooner rather than later so everybody gets a lift and some real belief back.

Moving on, after the game today though he told the Official Site:

'I thought we deserved to win the game, it was a bit edgy when they scored, but we deserved to win. It will be great for confidence, everyone is willing us to do it, the crowd again were fabulous. It was a massive win. I thought Nathan was exceptional, Ciaran and Ron too, they were excellent.'

Lambert described N'Zogbia's free kick as being 'world class' and credit where it's due, he seems to have come on leaps and bounds recently. We are slowly starting to see the Charlie we hoped for when we signed him.

Lambert also explained that Gabby and KEA were missing from the game as they had both fallen ill with a sickness big. Zoggy's substitution was because he took a knock, but it's not thought it will keep him out of the Arsenal game.

The 3 points are the only thing that mattered today. But what has happened to Weimann's confidence and scoring ability? Andi's miss after 2 minutes was dreadful- it was easier to score. And that follows the crucial miss against Everton. Had he scored that chance which fell just after half time, I am sure we would have gone on to win. Surprised that PL gave Bowrey his first start in a game of this magnitude. The substitutions, Bent and Dawkins made an immediate impact. I feel confident the team has the ability to do a good job against the Gooners. I remember the lamentable surrender before the team even took the pitch last season. We must get in their face from the off. Up the Villa!

I think he played Bowery for two reason No Gabby physical presence He did fine
Jongekki
Bowery was so far out of his depth it was shocking. The guy tried but he will never be a premiership player or a championship one if we do end up there. UTV

Good win. 1st half we dominated but cant say it was good football. Dawkins and Bent changed the game massively and we were good for the win. Bowery and Delph still looked like youth players. How Delph got man of the match I will never know. He has talent but he really needs to slow down!

Agreed about the Zog - he looked great today, keep it up please Charlie we need more of that !

The Zog got man of the match on Talksport and he did have a big impact. Maybe now he will start to do it more often. Pleased I called it right when I said Benteke would score and you would win. Now do it again.

And kudos to the back line as well. Baker in particular player like a man possessed. And Guzan - great saves as usual, that we've come to expect and appreciate. This roller coaster ride of a season is definitely on the up swing.

Yes Baker was immense, good call by PL to play him instead of Bennet against that opposition.

Bowery was out of his position, not out of his depth, a winger he is not
charizma
Whats happened to Carruthurs ? Would like to see him get some game time.

Decent 3 points yes. Zoggy was good, Baker was good, as a lot are saying, Bowery is not a wide man/winger.
Pride of Lions
Bowery looked slow and clumsy and, although this is a bit unfair given it was his first time playing with the big boys, clueless. Where exactly on the football field is there a position that requires these 'abilities'? It's either mile too soon to play him in the PL and his confidence will suffer or he's just not good enough. I go for the latter.

Agree Bowey out of position was a strange one why not Dawkins from the off?. Mind you we should be used to this at Villa certain managers played Heskey there. But regardless we got the win five more wins and I dont care who he plays where so long as we get em.

Charizma a premiership footballer should be comfortable on the ball wherever he players even if its not his usual position. I felt sorry for the lad because even his teammates were reluctant to give him the ball at times. I know players can have bad games but he just looked very poor on the ball although I cant fault his effort. Oh well who cares anyway its just great to get the 3 points. UTV
