Teale Offers Some Defensive Advice

Teale Offers Some Defensive Advice

Shaun Teale has said modern day footballs don't seem to want to get their hair dirty, and well, it's about time our defence did!

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Teale talked about the philosophy our defence had under Big Ron and how it seems to be now:

'At 3-2 up we concede yet another corner and it cost us three points. They don't attack the ball. Look at Fellaini, I think Clark gets bundled over in the melee but Vlaar actually runs under Fellaini. There's no attacking of the ball. Our philosophy when we were defending was 'there's only one ball, lets go and attack it'. You can have 20 players in the box but there's still only one ball. Maybe they don't like getting their hair dirty any more, you don't see old school defending.'

Teale also talks about winning battles, getting so wound up with yourself for losing a battle and making sure it never happens again. He also makes one telling comment which is different in today's game, he talks about growing up and playing with seniors who would tell you exactly what to do and not hold back if you didn't. There's non of that anymore, and he doesn't think the players or manager are being honest enough with themselves in the dressing room when mistakes are happening on the pitch.

How much could we do with somebody like Teale back!

Speaks a lot of truth. It would be worth Teale going into our dressing room 15 minutes before kick off to wind them up and get them going!

Teale is right, the days of players getting stuck in are gone, not only in defense. What I'd give for Andy Gray sticking his head on a ball regardless of whether or not he was gonna get it kicked. Interesting article from the mail on corner stats, seems we just need to concede less corners eh ? http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/special-feature-aston-villa-writer-1295323 We have to deal with Andy Carroll on Saturday or else we are screwed. Maybe we play the new guy Sylla as a sweeper ? We need height in defense to deal with Carroll's threat. Will be interesting to see what team and formation PL puts out.

nicely put Teale. He also volunteered to go in and help for free but of course, Lambert doesn't need any help. Ahem.

it just annoys me that ex players like Teele and Collymore have offered free service and any help possible and it is turned down. It is about time the board got its P45 and some football people were led back into the club, also PL swallowed some pride and took a helping hand, also not heard much from Sid of late, he must be *****ed off

I said the other day. Although Collins was a dick, he put his head where it hurt like Laursen etc. Why the ***** aren't players trying to clear the ball rather than trying to hold hands with the oppo?? Confidence is too low and we need a bit of luck (or 2 or 3) to get it up. The January signings definitely won't.

Can only echo some of the sentiments posted above. It's a shame that the likes of Shaun Teale, Kenny McNaught, Morty, Tony Morley, Stan Collymore etc., etc., aren't being utilised by the club right now. Their attendance at Bodymoor Heath, their involvement in the day to day training, would surely have to be a plus, and a huge boost to all concerned?
