Lambert Left With Mixed Emotions Again

Lambert Left With Mixed Emotions Again

Paul Lambert has talked about having mixed emotions following our 3-3 draw with Everton today.

Speaking to the Official Site after Everton grabbed a point at the end of the game Lambert was forced to look at the positives.

'My emotions are mixed. I thought we played really well throughout the game. Coming here, nobody gave us a chance. Everton are a right good side. We came here and I thought we played really well. We got the goal through Christian, Gabby's goal was top class. Then the third we did score was world class. The front lads were excellent. You knew Everton were going to come at your strongly, but you just have to try and see the game through, which we never managed to do.'

Lambert also said it was important for us to get a foot hold on the game and not concede before going ahead, I won't comment, but it's another game we haven't taken valuable points from, and whilst it's good to see us being clinical up front given the very few chances we actually created, we are still defensively fragile and we are still struggling to create openings.

Today thankfully we took them, and it is at least a point, but that gaps growing at the bottom and it's not comfortable.

What unfortunately is becoming a bit too common at the moment are lines like this though.

'I probably got criticised for signing him (Christian Benteke) because he wasn't a name, no one had heard of him, people thought 'what's Aston Villa doing signing him'. I'm pretty sure he's put that to bed.'

Might be best to leave the judgements on 'others' until we are actually winning games and not in the bottom three Paul.

He doesnt have a clue. Whats he talking about with benteke? when did any one say anything like that? Villa fans were excited when we bought him. Its just a completely bizarre comment thats come out of no where thats just showing how clueless he is. A few weeks ago he made a similar comment about Andi Weimann, saying no one has noticed how good he is because of Benteke....well yes the fans had noticed that hes one of our best players months ago. And the defense is terrible, no where in the interview does he say anything about the defenders not being able to defend and making lots of mistakes, nor does he mention how we completely fell apart after taking the 2 goal lead

Plan To Stay Up. We had 20 pts before today. This is what I predicted before today. A lot of blind hope & faith here I know but here goes Everton defeat 20 pts West Ham win 23. Arsenal defeat 23. Man City defeat 23. Reading win 26. QPR win 29. Liverpool win 32. Stoke draw 33. Fulham win. 36. Man Utd defeat 36. Sunderland win 39. Chelsea draw 40. Wigan draw 41. We have 1 more point than I thought we would have so far. So 42 pts if all the rest come off. Take off 4 pts for slip ups and we can do it. Not a lot of slip ups that is the problem. But not beyond all hope. Keep the faith. One point better off so far. Beat West Ham and were off and running & can lose next 2 after that. Winning 3 on the trot after that is asking a lot I know but......Come On Villa.

@david - he seems to have meant the defense when he said "I wont comment" as he doesnt want to put the blame on anyone.

I get the impression that PL is trying to boost Benteke's confidence by saying that. He is immense, leads the line and Gets the rest feeling confident aswell knowing he's there and that good. Roy Keaneesque. Confidence is most of the battle. If only we had another experienced CB. Most slated him but I'm sure if we had Collins here, we'd have saved at least 10 points through set pie ces etc.

Villan44 - suggest you check last season's stats on how many stupid free kicks we conceded in and around our box (Collins the man culprit). Also how many goals we conceded from set pieces last season. I am all for having some experience at the back but Collins? Headless chicken with no brains. Looked like he put his life on the line covering his own cock-ups.

We have been rubbish from set pieces for 3 years. It's not exclusive to this season. It's just highlighted this year as we are dropping more points because of it. We are a pretty small side in comparison to many which doesn't help either. Gone are the days when we had the likes of Laursen, Carew, Mellberg, even Knight, when we were a big physical side.

Don't think you are in any position to be smug about your signings paul.

Doctors are advising me to give up supporting Villa and take up Crochet instead after I was found agreeing with Garth Crooks after todays game when he talked about PL's failure to have any experience in his teams all season..............these are big bloody needles??
