Dawkins Will Surprise People

Paul Lambert has said new loan signing Simon Dawkins could be a surprise package for us this season.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert explained that he believed that Dawkins had the potential to 'surprise a lot of people' during his second half of the season spell with us.

'He's a good player, if you look at his story, it's a great story, going from Spurs to San Jose. For the last couple of years he has been excellent over there and the MLS I think is a very underrated league. He will give us something a bit different. Dawkins will be a surprise to a lot of people, just the way he plays. The lad is on loan and an unknown is sometimes a good thing because a lot of people won't know him.'

Well let's hope he becomes a known unknown that people don't know until they get to know him then.

He certainly is a surprise. Lets not make the mistake of expecting too much from him, but a nice surprise would be very welcome.
Pride of Lions
never seen him play at any level, so i hope he does a job for you and helps you get away from the bottom 3, even if you finished 17th come May, that is all you need and QPR finish 18/19 0r 20 job done.
spu 4 life
Have never heard of him. lets just hope he can make a ten yard pass. That would at least we an provement on what we have had.

I have only seen him play in the flesh as an academy/reserve player and that was some time ago. I have seem him on TV and I also know that Spurs thought/think highly of him and perhaps only a very bad knee injury that could have easily finished his career has held him back from what could otherwise have been a very decent career to this point. he has received great reviews for San Jose, playing mainly from the left side (watch out Gabby) and is known as a creative provider with a great team ethic. I can actually see a pick of N'Zogbia and Dawkins doing very well in supporting Benteke having balance, creativity and penetration

Saying that, I would be surprised to see him start at Everton

hope he surprises us, would be lovely, but MLS is not underrated, I've been over and watched some games in New York. The quality is awful
The Fear
Hope he does, but the point is we didn't need another forward, defence should have been our number 1 focus in the window. Not a loan attacker from the mls.

My assistant worked at San Jose for the past five years. Says that Dawkins is a very talented kid and that San Jose were desperately trying to get him back, and will likely be back in for him in June. Frank Yallop is their coach (ex Ipswich) and he has a good eye for a player. They were the most prolific team in MLS last season. I respectfully disagree on your quality assessment JF. It's not an exciting experience at MLS games, mostly due to the lack of atmosphere in the grounds, but the overall quality of the players is quite good. Certainly not up to premier league standards, but comparable to a second-tier european league like the championship etc.

Oh, and my assistant texted Mr Dawkins yesterday and told him to perform in a Villa shirt because I'd fire him if he didn't. So that's all sorted.... :)

JF, I suppose you have to assess the ability of a player on his ability as opposed to the league he was playing in. it may well take a player like Dawkins a few games to get to the pace and physicality once again, however he does have English game experience with Spurs and on loan to Orient, so he is not joining totally raw. also I wonder if the perception would have been different if he wasnt a "Spurs reject" as some have intimated. similarly if you were bringing in an MLS player such as Donavan or a name you had heard of, would there be such negativity?
oxfordspur
indeed oxfordspur totally agree mate. i am for one happy to give him his chance, he looks like a nzogbia AM type of player but a bit stronger perhaps?..hopefully he'll come good at the end and we buy him off you!! tired of reading comments on the 'crapness of players' signed on here. theyre in the shirt, they have my support..as did savo, as did balaban, bloomin even djemba djemba..

Ox, look at our position in the table? I am FINE with us building for the future and bringing in signings who may or may not do well (good luck to them all) but we are going down, we needed players for the HERE AND NOW. Simple as that. He might prove inspired and single handedly save us. I can't see it myself, but I will hope.
