Darren Bent To Stay At Villa

Pete Colley, Sky's man on the spot for Aston Villa, has been told that Darren Bent will be staying at Villa this season.

Pete Colley ‏@petecolley
Being told Bent stays!!

Nothing to add. If he'd been allowed to go, it would really have been the final straw unless replaced with better would it not?

So, a summer exit instead then!

Allowed to go Fear?? I get the impression that there's no takers... Complete waste of money unless you've got top top quality wingers and base 90% of your attacking strategy around him. He's 1 dimensional and CANNOT adapt. Sure he's a nice guy though ;-D ( as if anyone gives a toss.)

aye, think you know what I mean, I know you don't like him, but we can't sell without bringing in better all the time, that is why we are in this mess. Sold him, got an injury, we have no alternatives. Sell him, bring in better and ok, that is a manager decision. Not getting into the bent good/bad argument as I'm bored of that from a 3million page thread in the forum! LOL

I really thought he would be on his way after the performance against Newcastle. With Benteke, Weimann, Gabby and Bowery do we really need him sitting on the bench or putting in 45 mins of goal hanging until he's substituted ? I'd rather have Crouch back.

In fact a swap deal for Bent with Crouch and Charlie Adams in return sounds like a good deal to me.

Bents a quality player, we dont have the players to help him out but theres no point selling him for way below his value just because we want to get rid of him. remember he did keep us up in his first season.

He's not going to increase in value sat on our bench David and he won't get much of a game either. He wouldn't have had to "save us" as you put if GH hadn't radically changed the playing style and created the need for him. We did finish 9th also. Oops, started ranting again.

lol some people make me laugh. We've got loads of strikers who run around like headless chickens and can't hit a cows backside with a banjo, so we should sell Bent because the manager can't set up a team to ceate chances, hilarious. As Benteke seems to be everyone's golden child I'll use him for comparison According the official site he scores with 11% of his shots (1 in 10!!!!) Bent by contrast scores 60% now lets see... mensa test in a team struggling to create chances do you want a forward line of people who need 10 shots or 2.

Well, you did say something stupid so I'll have to explain.... Bencht cannot, does not, do anything other than shoot in the 18 yard box. This means that the stats that you've got to fit your simple argument are worthless. Benteke shoots from everywhere and outmuscles defenders in the process,( another thing that Bent can't do.) Benteke does everything a striker/attacker should do. If we had 2 Bents, they'd be worthless to each other as they'd just be stood with hands on hips waiting for the rest of the team to do all the work so they can take the glory by adding the final touch. If we were allowed 12 players, then play him but he's a luxury that a struggling team definitely cannot afford or carry. You should skip the Mensa test for another incarnation. Without Benteke, Gabby etc. we'd have no ******** chances to finish as the person who's supposed to be creating would be goalhanging. You are stuck in the past. Probably why you preferred Eck over MON and PL. LOL, and that is something that you should be laughing about.

I was really hoping Stoke would have gone all blind and done a player plus cash deal for him. He obviously would have to take a pay cut and there's no way he'll do that so 'he's staying put' rather than 'nobody will pay him what he wants.' Gutted. When is his contract up anyway?

Much as I do like Bent I was hoping for a Crouch/Adam deal also . We should never have let Crouch go in the 1st place as most of us said at the time .

We don’t need Bent's goals. Since Lambert dropped him. 0-5 City, 0-0 Arsenal, 0-0 Stoke, 1-0 Reading, 1-1 QPR, 0-8 Chelsea, 0-4 Spurs, 0-1 Southampton, 0-3 Wigan, knocked out against League One Bradford, 2-2 against West Brom and Swansea. Oh and just for 444 the freak result at the mighty Anfield.

Do the think Bent can be a godsend to the right team supprised Liverpool didnt go for him, to give them a third striker. But would agree he just does not fit how we are trying to play at the moment with no midfield and the strikers trying to create their own chances. Agree with those would have taken Crouch and Adam and Palicious in exchange only thing wrong with that deal is with Bentke & Crouch up front we shouldnt have sold Collins the hoof because the ball would spend most of the time with snow on it.

How many did Bencht score before he was dropped Withenshawe?? Pointless non-stats that fail to prove anything. Do you even know the offside rule?? Benteke has scored in his last 3 appearances. Bent has only got 2 in the league all season.

Sorry 444 but some of your so called rants about bent are a joke. Ok, the bloke has limitations but only Villa could have a goal scorer like that and not maximise it. If bent can only score in the 18 yard box, then what happened against Ipswich. Was that in a parallel universe or something cos where I was sitting he hit it from outside the box. No probs that you dislike the bloke but at least stick to the facts. Every player has limitations, benteke looks a quality prospect but for as many as he scores he concedes a few at our end. Gabby works hard but hardly hits the net. Bent is an asset, would be crazy to sell him.

444 is a WUM at best. he's persevered for weeks with this stupid nickname for DB9, hoping it would catch on. IT DIDN'T! Bit like the geek at school who calls himself 'butch' or 'stud' but nobody buys into it. If you gave a t0$$ about this club 444, might realise that DB9 is one of a very few players who might save us from the drop (like he did 2 years ago). get behind him, FFS.

444 you also claimed recently in one of your zillions of Bent yawnfests that he can only use his right peg. Strange that he came of the bench against Albion and smacked it in with his left peg in front of the Holte that time. Some of your rants are slightly warped.

Bent is quality but he's out of form and his confidence is shattered just like the rest of the squad, that's not his fault and you don't lose quality over night. Giving the managers backing and time on the pitch he would come good but I guess the question is will he ever get that with Lambert.

Heres how it is. When we were set up to play with DB9 (Jan-May11) with Young and Downing, it worked. Then we sold same and did not replace them. Then BENTEKE WAS CLEARLY BOUGHT TO REPLACE BENT and the team has been set up around him by his infatuated manager. Although Andi & Gabby with Bent might work, if they were actually allowed to play for 2-3 games straight, its still not the same as Ash & Stew were. Plus it looks like we have no takers for Darren right now, seeing as he is out of form and utterly demotivated (WC14 must be a receding dream for him already, and I feel sorry for the guy for that reason). And so we nove on, like boat beating ceaselessly against the past.

I shouldn't write Darren off just yet. He might be the goalscorer that we need to save our sorry backsides, before the curtain comes down on the season. He's a natural finisher, there's few of his ilk in the top flight nowadays. When we bring in a better finisher, sell him. But not until.
