'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wayhey Transfer Gossip

It's being reported that Villa are on the verge of signing Yacouba Sylla, a defensive midfielder, for 1.75million.

It's expected the player will be announced tomorrow, arriving from French second division side Clermont, who I read are currently 14th in the league.

He is also 22 years old and a six footer.

And that's about all I know about him.

The Birmingham Mail say he is the next option on the list after we were priced out of a move for Moussa Sissoko, who many fans would've welcomed.

The Daily Mail confirm the rumour by saying that Paul Lambert and Paul Faulkner have been beavering away at Bodymoor Heath all day putting the finishing touches to the deal.

There are also brief whispers that Stoke could be lining up a late move for Darren Bent, as Peter Crouch is apparently set for a move to QPR.

Could be a busy day tomorrow! Well, we need it to be don't we!

I hope he can work miracles. Welcome to the club,
Lock
We need something Mike, not sure Sylla has the quality we need, he certainly doesn't have the experience. Let's hope it's an inspired signing! We need a couple more...
26.05.82
Finally...an experienced player from a quality side!!!
jonah
Should I be excited about a second division French player who I have never heard of, many seem to think he is the messiah already . I get the feeling as long as we spend money people are happy
andy3221
Priced out of a move? by 250k? good one... Wouldnt pay him a decent wage more like...
CDX_EIRE
The French second division. It's renowned for it's quality. My arse. It would be a real shame to see Benty go, he is not a Stoke kind of player however.
PiperUK
Agreed PiperUK he's not a Stoke kind a player. Trouble is he's not a Villa type of player now, not for the current type of side. IMO he's class and if we were a better side he would be major asset, sadly the way we play at the moment he's a luxury we can't afford. Still gutted if he goes.
26.05.82
Lol@jonah. Living the dream! :@)
The Fear
Come on lads give the fella a break he hasn't turned up yet...
maigrait
Been watching this since this morning. It was reported on twitter by there talk show. Expect a few more signings. Herd a lot of names coming out of Villa park when I up there earlier.. and we have bid for 3 more players.
HolteEnd89
maigret: would that be Bent or Sylla you're referring to?
Winsforvilla
A six foot defensive midfielder? Don't care where we got him, he's better than what we have already.
Stephen Jay Hawkings
winsforvilla - :) I was referring to Sylla... but hey apply as necessary.
maigrait
Agree SJH, I'll take anything at the moment! Andy it's not that I'm happy if we just spend money, but if we DON'T spend money we know what we've got and we know it isn't good enough. If we DO spend money at least there is some hope!
AVFC4ME
Bannan's replacement. Please PL
Villan444
Live in France and never heard of this guy. Straws and cluching comes to mind
Villaininthemerde
Salifou?
Stig
If he is half as good as Sissoko he's still a month, 9 points and 2 cup competitions too late...........trying to close the relegation stable door after the villa horse is halfway round the national course!
griffgriff
A few rumours gathering on Twitter that Florent Malouda will be signing tomorrow, just putting it out there, he's finished at Chelsea, although I'm sure he'd command big wages. Probably rubbish but I need to excite myself.
Stephen Jay Hawkings
A 6 foot banana would be better than what we've got now, get him signed, can not possibly do any worse
antonvilla
Lol Stig and Anton.
Villan444
Would have liked a more experienced player with a proven track record, but like what's been said I'll take anyone at the moment, so if the deal does happen, welcome to the club! He can't be more ineffective than Bannan in a defensive midfield role so all is good.
VillaHippo
Would it really be such a bad thing to try and get Adam, Palacios and Jones plus cash for Bent?? Just an idea. Sylla? Cilla Black would be a better option than what we have seen lately. Would love to thin the Malouda thing had a grain of truth in it. Roller coaster ride tomorrow, hope Pete Colley brings a warm coat to Bodymoor Heath.
Madirish
*think*
Madirish
According to Wikipaedia, Yacouba Benteke Sylla is 22 and 6 feet tall, played for Barcelona youths/B squad from 12 to 16 yrs of age, was capped once for France u-21's in 2011 and has attracted interest from Udinese and Stuttgart. Clermont in Ligue 2 has been his only senior club
Madirish
I think he's worth a punt.
Villa_Grizzly
"Paul Lambert and Paul Faulkner have been beavering away at Bodymoor Heath all day" - what a damn pity they weren't doing the very same on day one of the winter transfer window. Surely our predicament even way back then dictated that they ought to have been? Could not this deal for Yacouba Sylla not have been wrapped up in the early part of the month? All smacks of desperation stuff to yours truly, and sadly might just be way too little, way too late.
glensider
Agree glensider, leaving it this late is just desperation, 4 league games since the window opened, and 2 points picked up. Could be the difference between staying up and going down. Oh well, better than doing no business at all I suppose...
Stephen Jay Hawkings
Strange how transfer day all falls on my sons birthday
Lost_In_Ca
Isn't going to be playing in Ireland is he Villa_Grizzly?....Lol Seems like we're scraping the proverbial barrel - which doesn't surprise me TBH. This must of broke while I was safely in the land of nod.....
Pride of Lions
antonvilla, totally agree mate!! Haven't seen him play but he's got to be better than Bannan and the like. Hopefully he uses he size and is aggressive in the mid of the park because we are crying on for some steel in there!!
AdzVilla11
*out
AdzVilla11
1.75 million for a division 2 side... Really!??! They are sitting 14th???? 2 million for sissoko and we want to spend 1.75 million on a unknown likely rubbish player. Please NO!
Astriel
Three words. Eric Dejemba Dejemba.
PiperUK
Piper, sad thing is the Djemba twins would walk into our team right now.
AVbornandbred
not everyone's cup of tea when he was here and he was apparently awful at ipswich but isn't NRC a free agent right now? I'd give him a deal until the summer he'd give us steel, experience and leadership.
AVbornandbred
never heard of this guy. BUT i have just seen his picture on wiki - and - he's going to EPIC. you heard it right here 1st. He's gunna rip this premiership a new ar.se.hole.
applesmoke
think Bent to Stoke is a good move for all parties, just as long as Lambert has the money to invest in new players as opposed to the cash going away from the team
oxfordspur
Love the fans putting the guy down before he's even stepped on to pitch! Classic fans we have at villa... Have some of you guys forgotten an unknown Belgium player we signed in the summer? Lets see him first!
Mickatkins21
Lets see what the meat heads got, but seriuosly.....We were priced out of a move for Sissoko???? 250k difference? Is money really that tight? Us fans could have chipped in with that if it meant us getting him.
GibboVilla
Don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Saurat
watch your language Grizzly. OH, sorry, you said PUNT!
The Fear
Thats just what we need another kid form the lower leagues, now thats a total waste of money!! many on here complain about MON's money wasting tactics, well Lambert has to be just as bad, buying kids cheap on small wages, is money saving, granted, but when we go down to the championship because of it, that has to be a bigger waste of money surely. how much as this inept tool spent on players who just aren't good enough for the premier league.
eltoro
Gather we are mulling over a move for Kenwyne -Jones must be tied in with the Bent move in the other direction. Rather we had gone for Huddlestone Fulham are talking to him about a 5 MILL move from Spurs.
Merlin128777
It isn't just the fee that was the issue with Sissoko. Apparently, his wages were a major stumbling block for any deal.
notthedougellisstand
wages might well be a stumbling block- but isn't Ireland still on 65k a week??? what a waste young stephen has been.
zigthevilla
Remind m again why we don't gt J II makoun back??
onlyteaminthemids
^^^ because ge couldn't get a work permit. Big Eck is responsible for that particular failure.
PiperUK
^^^ because ge couldn't get a work permit. Big Eck is responsible for that particular failure.
PiperUK
Piper - they could easily have got him some english lessons by now, jst more bad management.
AVbornandbred
Oh the Beeb are so funny. "Sorry but French football expert Matt Spiro has some bad news: "Yacouba Sylla is an intriguing signing for Aston Villa. He's a big, strong tackler who will certainly add physical presence in the middle of the park, but if Paul Lambert expects him to make an immediate impact in the Premier League he may be disappointed. "He's only 22 and has never before played in the top flight, making 65 appearances for second-division Clermont. Although he played one game for the France Under-21s, Sylla remains relatively unknown this side of the Channel." Not ready to make an immediate impact in the Premier League? Sounds to me like he will fit in nicely with the rest of the Aston Villa squad..." (last sentence theirs) Ho ho feckin ho, oh mighty "impartial" BBC. Eat a bowl of man sausages.
ExpatVillaShirt
Although that might just be pride ****in' with me.. he's got a point, we're awful at the moment. Still, some news is better than no news, oui ? UTV
