Lambert Again Rules Out Big Spending

With the transfer window slowly coming to a close - has to be one of the quietest ever surely? - Paul Lambert has again said he won't be spending big if he can pull some deals off.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Lambert said when asked if he was preparing to spend like Houllier did:

'No chance, none whatsoever. I think Darren came in and the lad Makoun didn't he? No, absolutely not a chance. We're trying to do something with the structure of the club, but we won't be able to do that.'

Lambert again added that he does have deals in the offing but if they don't come off, he won't panic buy anybody and he's happy to go with the squad we have as he trusts them to beat our relegation worry:

'I get on really well with Randy, he really has been great with me. If I've got to go with the group I've got then I'll go with it. I don't have a problem, I've got nothing but praise for these lads. They give me everything they've got. Yes, I'd like two more results to get us out that bottom end, I'd like to get to a cup final and those sort of things like every Villa fan would.'

Still uncomfortably quiet really isn't it. We all know we need strengthening, we all know we need a bit more experience, so let's hope the deals do come off and they work, because we all need a bit of a lift and some belief back don't we.

The only other option then is to use the much maligned experienced players we have got. Yes i mean warnock. Hope he does it. It will be our only chance if we dont sign anyone.

Hopefully he just means not spending big... I mean Diame and moussa sissoko are reported for 3.5 and Palacios might be 5... Huddlestone on loan one of those moves should be realistic...

Oh well, we've been told a couple of times now. Over to you Lambert, you had enough cash in the summer to ensure our surival. Don't fail us !

Would 3m for the 'linked' sissoko be classed as big spending?? Hope not !

True, we just need to solid up a bit. Hopefully he can get a few 3-4 million players in who can do a job for us.

aaaaaahhhh. I can't take much more of this. Do they not realise at VP what we are going through right now? Please, just please, feed us something positive, however small.

I think the big spending refer to the round of drinks he bought at the Christmas Party!!!! Do not be surprised if it's a) another non Premiership load of junk or b) no-one.

If we dont hurry and get some transfers in we will be finished. Lerner needs to understand that this team is not good enough. plain and simple, if we go into the championship we will lose all the sky tv rights which will cost us upto 100m. do the maths better to spend 20million now than lose 100m next year.

One second I'm reading Southampton sack Adkins and thinking, that could open the door for us, what a stupid move on their behalf. Then I read this and nearly throw up, what a bloody joke. Never said this before but the time has come LERNER OUT

Just watched a good performance from the Sheffield Wednesday team of the mid 90's - Dan Petrescu, Des Walker, Ian Taylor, Chris Bart Williams etc. A good team that finished 7th two years on the trot.....a few years later they found themselves in League 1....a disaster that no one thought woukd happen....ring any bells?

with the current squad i really can't see us beating anyone - including Bradford! if this is what we have to look forward to then get De Matteo in and at least give us a chance!

These are dark days, we have an owner that has taken this club backwards and proved he has not got a clue how to run a football club ''sorry i mean soccer'' its a joke that ain't funny anymore, we have been cutting back for three seasons now load of rubbish all this wage rollox is, it'sa farce and an excuse to reign back Randy's money and stop investing into the club, oh and the 20million we are spending is out of out Sky TV deal anyway not Randy, please just sell us RandyLerner to an ambitous owner and who knows something about football!

In the absence of any new arrivals, a prospect that I'm not overly surprised about, Paul Lambert simply has to utilise the likes of Richard Dunne, Stevie Warnock, Darren Bent etc.etc. To do otherwise would be bordering on the outrageous, and simply increase our chances of ending the campaign firmly rooted in the bottom three. What we have tried this season to date has quite clearly been found wanting, a change of track is imperative.

A change of track sure. But warnock et co. is surely a step backwards?!?! All the signings will be done on the last day so randy can save some more money. We used to blame MON for this but it's continued throughout the American's tenure.

Lol love everyone blaming Lerner so if he spends on players Lambert doesn't want everyone would be complaining about him interfering. Lerner has said time and time again that money is available, the problem is that Lambert is too useless to know how to spend it.

Don't worry Villa - if you won't spend big, neither will I. Having to advertise semi final tickets on Talk****e's a disgrace, tells you we won't keep pouring money in if Randy IV won't do the same.

I am growing very tired of the Nero-esque attitude of PL..we need action and need it least 2 signings..all week in the press I`ve seen nothing from VP apart from deluded ramblings of players about how great each other is..nono no, you are not great, if you were we would not be floundering around the bottom end of the table..Reality check needed.. not the "we`ll be fine" mantra from lambert..GRRRRRRRR

Simon Kjaer would be a great addition but doubt we get anyone good let alone decent. I would sooner hear nothing than to hear that we are not spending big, but then what is big? Is it the big Houllier window spend (which was getting up there) or is it bigger? Either way it has to be said that saying PL will be happy to stick with what we have got is absolute suicide. The team just isn't working and losing to Bradford in the cup sums up where we are. There are three games this week and let's see if sticking to the same squad wins any of these, I doubt it but pray to the lord McGrath that I am wrong. UTV 19.

AVbornandbread, when did you ever hear Lerner himself say that the money is there? Just curious because I've never heard him speak. I've heard Lambert saying that but he's just keeping on side with his boss.

This is from Stuart James of the Guardian -- 'consider these Opta statistics: under McLeish, Villa, on average, scored more goals, conceded fewer goals, picked up more points, registered more shots, made more crosses and won more tackles. McLeish's season, lest it be forgotten, went down as one of the bleakest on record at Villa'.

Yes VWRA but PL is building a new team and what they need to compare is Eck's final 6 months compared to PL's first. Registered more shots would definitely be in the new manager's favour.

V444 -- Those of us still willing to back Lambo will be watching the Bradford game with interest. There can't be many excuses for an EPL team not to beat a club from the fourth tier at home. Also if Lambert wants to build a 'new team' he needs backing from the owner in the transfer market. It doesn't appear that he's getting it. The Guardian article was very critical of Lerner.

As far as I am concerned unless we move on Dunne,Warnock.Hutton,Makoun,Ireland,Bannan,Delph,Albrighton,Nzobia and not letting Lambert away with it KEA and Bennett then we will get no where they are all failed experiments all capable of the odd good game but flatter to deceive. The last 3 managers have tried various combinations of them none of them have worked yes I know some may add Gabby and Bent to that list but I feel they could at least play a part in future the others I do not.We are talking about 11 players there, that as I see it is the problem. How many more managers will this crew get sacked before someone sees the light.
