Lambert Again Rules Out Big Spending

Lambert Again Rules Out Big Spending

With the transfer window slowly coming to a close - has to be one of the quietest ever surely? - Paul Lambert has again said he won't be spending big if he can pull some deals off.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Lambert said when asked if he was preparing to spend like Houllier did:

'No chance, none whatsoever. I think Darren came in and the lad Makoun didn't he? No, absolutely not a chance. We're trying to do something with the structure of the club, but we won't be able to do that.'

Lambert again added that he does have deals in the offing but if they don't come off, he won't panic buy anybody and he's happy to go with the squad we have as he trusts them to beat our relegation worry:

'I get on really well with Randy, he really has been great with me. If I've got to go with the group I've got then I'll go with it. I don't have a problem, I've got nothing but praise for these lads. They give me everything they've got. Yes, I'd like two more results to get us out that bottom end, I'd like to get to a cup final and those sort of things like every Villa fan would.'

Still uncomfortably quiet really isn't it. We all know we need strengthening, we all know we need a bit more experience, so let's hope the deals do come off and they work, because we all need a bit of a lift and some belief back don't we.

As far as I am concerned unless we move on Dunne,Warnock.Hutton,Makoun,Ireland,Bannan,Delph,Albrighton,Nzobia and not letting Lambert away with it KEA and Bennett then we will get no where they are all failed experiments all capable of the odd good game but flatter to deceive. The last 3 managers have tried various combinations of them none of them have worked yes I know some may add Gabby and Bent to that list but I feel they could at least play a part in future the others I do not.We are talking about 11 players there, that as I see it is the problem. How many more managers will this crew get sacked before someone sees the light.

Fair enough VWRA. You can prove anything with stats. Bradford or bust?!?!? Don't think that they've got a backup plan anyway....

* an EPL club at home not to beat a club from the fourth tier.

V444 -- Those of us still willing to back Lambo will be watching the Bradford game with interest. There can't be many excuses for an EPL team not to beat a club from the fourth tier at home. Also if Lambert wants to build a 'new team' he needs backing from the owner in the transfer market. It doesn't appear that he's getting it. The Guardian article was very critical of Lerner.
19/01/2013 12:55:00
Yes VWRA but PL is building a new team and what they need to compare is Eck's final 6 months compared to PL's first. Registered more shots would definitely be in the new manager's favour.
19/01/2013 12:50:00
This is from Stuart James of the Guardian -- 'consider these Opta statistics: under McLeish, Villa, on average, scored more goals, conceded fewer goals, picked up more points, registered more shots, made more crosses and won more tackles. McLeish's season, lest it be forgotten, went down as one of the bleakest on record at Villa'.

AVbornandbread, when did you ever hear Lerner himself say that the money is there? Just curious because I've never heard him speak. I've heard Lambert saying that but he's just keeping on side with his boss.
19/01/2013 07:29:00
Simon Kjaer would be a great addition but doubt we get anyone good let alone decent. I would sooner hear nothing than to hear that we are not spending big, but then what is big? Is it the big Houllier window spend (which was getting up there) or is it bigger? Either way it has to be said that saying PL will be happy to stick with what we have got is absolute suicide. The team just isn't working and losing to Bradford in the cup sums up where we are. There are three games this week and let's see if sticking to the same squad wins any of these, I doubt it but pray to the lord McGrath that I am wrong. UTV 19.

I am growing very tired of the Nero-esque attitude of PL..we need action and need it least 2 signings..all week in the press I`ve seen nothing from VP apart from deluded ramblings of players about how great each other is..nono no, you are not great, if you were we would not be floundering around the bottom end of the table..Reality check needed.. not the "we`ll be fine" mantra from lambert..GRRRRRRRR
