'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 17/01/2013

Unoial Villa News...

Interesting article by Mat Law (one of the senior writers who sometimes also goes on the Sky show, Sunday Supplement) in The Mirror. It calls for some sort of director of football, but that aside, brings up a few very good interesting talking points. A good few who know me will know I`ve said the same here as have others obviously, I'm not being a football sage here! The board does appear narrow (Randy as chairman, a CEO and a finance director + one non exec) and it wouldn`t hurt at all to have someone we identify as a 'football person`. Smell the Glove says: If Villa fans were in any doubt as to the severity of our plight before Saturday afternoon`s game against Southampton, its result brought it into sharp relief. The ignominy of yet another home defeat to a relegation-threatened rival, coupled with the familiar lacklustre and spiritless performance from Paul Lambert`s team, saw the club plumb new depths in our abysmal campaign so far. A number of journalists have said they believe Paul Lambert's job to be safe at Villa, despite our current form, but that Randy Lerner is well aware of the battle we are in. Writing on the Birmingham Mail Mat Kendrick quotes the manager saying in response to the question was Randy showing concern about our recent run of results Plus poll results should he stay or go: Lambert's Job Is Safe

After another disappointing loss to Southampton, Ciaran Clark believes that once confidence grows and we find the back of the net, we are due to take our frustrations out on somebody with a convincing win. Speaking to the Official Site Clark said he believes our luck will change if we keep battling away like we did against Southampton, but he'd be more worried if we weren't creating chances. Paul Brown: Cyrille Regis was part of two of the region's most gifted sides - Villa of the early 1990s and Albion of the late 1970s - and he admits a massive reason for the exhilarating football they produced was charismatic and gloriously flamboyant manager Ron Atkinson. See: www.avfc.co.uk
