Villa Battle With Fulham For Midfielder

James Nursey at The Mirror says that Villa are looking to take Derek Boateng from under the noses of Fulham.

The 29-year-old Ghana international midfielder is apparently able to leave his Ukraine team, FC Dnipro, this month.

He`s had a medical at Fulham but Villa are also trying to grab him.

would be fantastic but A) it's probably not true he seems too experienced fo Lambert and will have his own opinion, B) given the choice between Jol and Lambert he'll choose Jol C) relative league position and form makes fuham more attractive and D) he'll choose london over brum.

Surely not realistic. Never played for anyone half decent at the age of 29. Did he just slip through the net like so many of us or is this complete rubbish?? Think that even Birmingham is better than the Ukraine though so he'd jump at the chance.

We well be find. N'Zogbia Quote "For me the best form of defence is to attack. In a couple of games we’re going to start winning”. So we well lose against Bradford and West Brom. Joys!

All this lack of transfer activitey is a total farce, i mean if thisis the type of player we are pinning our hopes on staying up then we are doomed, no dis-respect to Boetang but i really thought we would pick the pace up this week and sign some quality players because we HAD too, it's all desperate and the time is running out for us to get the quality we need not happy so far one bit tbh!

The club don't listen or give a toss until something appears on one of Fatty Faulkner's spread sheets. We only got rid of McLeish because season ticket renewals were over 10,000 down on what was expected, the fact that the team played *****e all season had no effect as Faulkner and Lerner couldn't analyse a Villa game perfomance with a Dummy's guide! Maybe some sort of boycott on refreshments in the ground and purchases in the club shop is required? Clutching at straws really but things only seem to happen at this place when a downward trending red line appears ona graph and they all scratch there heads! P.S calling Faulkner Fat isn't childish, it is merely a statement of fact!

17th of Jan and not even a concrete link let alone a signing, while the bottom club sign 2 French internationals, and all around us strengthen their squads when it's our squad needs most strengthening. As it stands "We will not be fine"....

Keep hearing links to Moussa Sissoko , please God may this be true. This is the kind of signing we need. 23 years old (Young and keen - check) and an absolute talent.

I think it *is* relevant that the owner is from the USA - or rather, is in the USA. I also think it worthy of comment at least that both he and Faulkner and also Mcleech are all of the ginger persuasion - shame we couldnt get Strachan in.

malacaxeta -- you said it, fella. It is relvant that the owner is IN the USA but not relevant that he's FROM the USA. If Warren Buffet offered to bankrole the Villa everyone on this site would be eating Yankee Apple Pie. If Moyes was made gaffer the same fans slagging off Faulkner would be wearing ginger wigs. Just because Lerner and Faulkner are crap at their jobs doesn't mean the fans should make themselves look like idiots by personally insulting them. It just encourages Lerner to think of us as a bunch of uneducated limeys.

Sissoko would be a fantastic signing. I know he's young, but he's been a regular in a top league and in the past linked with top CL sides. I can't help but think it's a load of cobblers though. Here's dreaming.

If Lambert has decided on player/players then Randy will back him and Faulkner will do his utmost to get the deal done. This is what has happened with every Villa manager in every window. It has not taken Redknapp long and if he was manager at Villa, we would have had some quality signings by now. But because he isn’t let’s all pretend there is a goodie and baddie world with big bad Lerner and his poor little victim Lambert.

Not making much of a success of this winter transfer window to date are we? On the outside looking in, our inactivity would suggest that yet again we were poorly prepared for the arrival of January 1st, and that has to be both of a concern and a worry. I suppose that as we are not aware of the ins and outs, the reasons why, then we have to give Lambert, Lerner, and Faulkner the benefit of the doubt, and sit tight comfortable in the belief that they have been working flat out since day one, in a determined effort to add to and improve our completely inadequate squad, inadequate in both quality and numbers. I suppose it cant be easy attracting genuine quality into the club, after all how do you sell the distinct possibility that come August, a new arival could well be plying his trade in the championship? Hardly a positive selling point.

Heard another nasty rumour aswell that hardly any of players have a relegation clause in their contract whereby they take a wage drop if we go down. Amazing if true, we've been in a relegation battle for 3 straight seasons !
17/01/2013 18:18:00

That is true. Why can't Lerner see that if we are in the Championship we will get next to no TV money and HE will have to cover the wages. N'Zogbia, Bent, Given, Agbonlahor, Hutton, and Irelands wages would be about £18million. The only way we would get them off the wage bill would be to let them go cheaply or for free - any transfer fees paid to purchase them effectively being lost as clubs will bid low as they will know we are desperate. Also worth pointing out that the 2 biggest earners (Ireland and Bent on £80k per week, and now frozen out) were not signed by managers. Ireland negotiated by Faulkner and Bent chosen by Lerner when Houllier said he wanted Benzema.

It seems to me that the issue here is not that the club is ill-prepared for the transfer window, moreover that it is not interested in the transfer window. The links and rumours are few and far between because in reality, there aren't any because the club isn't going to be buying. They are not willing to finance any panic buys having worked to reduce the wage bill, and I'm sure Lambert is/was well-aware of this when he signed up. Disappointing to say the least, but this is what comes of having a board of directors with virtually no football experience. If the return of Vlaar, Dunne maybe, and an upturn in form from Ireland, N'Zogbia, etc can save us, Lambert should be hailed as a miracle worker.

To be fair to the board,we don't know what negotiations have been going on with agents just to try and get to our target players!i have criticised the board as much as most this past month but a lot of overseas target players have been away on winter breaks etc.we all agree that most prem players in our price range would require really silly fees and wages so,even though I'm disappointed I'm not too worried ...yet!

Ok, personally, i believe it needs to be an 'all-or-nothing' transfer window. Either we bring in some QUALITY that we need, or i would rather we did not buy anyone, and save our cash for the championship next season. What's the point of signing some unknown 29 year old? We'll only have to pay his wages for 3-4 years, possibly while being in the championship! Lets hope this Sissonko rhumour is true (although dont know much about him)
