'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Clark We'll Keep Fighting

After another disappointing loss to Southampton, Ciaran Clark believes that once confidence grows and we find the back of the net, we are due to take our frustrations out on somebody with a convincing win.

Speaking to the Official Site Clark said he believes our luck will change if we keep battling away like we did against Southampton, but he'd be more worried if we weren't creating chances.

'It's always tough to lose a game but especially so with the fight and commitment we showed. We had chances, particularly in the second half. We will give everything again and hopefully we will get the luck next game. Lots of the lads had chances, it could have been three or four. It was just disappointing how we conceded our goal, it's clearly not a penalty. I'd be more concerned if we were getting beaten and we weren't creating anything. But we are and I think it will turn. Once that first one goes in? There will be a game where we score three or four.'

Sooner rather than later please Clarkie, we could all do with that kind of lift at the minute.

With Albion up next before the Bradford encounter, Clarke also commented in another interview that although the team know it will be a tough game, the defence are certainly prepared for Albion's on loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, because Christian Benteke is a handful in training.

'Facing Christian will help me prepare, they are similar players. We will stick together and bounce back. It's a big game for us and the supporters too, but we have shown that we can do well against any team. Hopefully we'll get the three points.'

Yes we are more than capable when we turn up, battle and fight, which Villa team will we see though, and will it be one that takes it's chances?

We need to start scoring 3/4 just to bring our goal difference down ! A Lot of player talk coming out of the club regards ,we will turn this corner. I would love to have the confidence they have because it is just so bleak at the min! Need a bit of talking from upstairs as to how they really feel, but after last seasons silence till the seasons end,no hope on that score either. Day 16 in the Aston villa house and still no sign of new life!

How about the back four spending some time in training learning how to work as a unit? How about communicating more, especially as captain, and trying to marshal midfield team mates and ensure that they don't leave you exposed. Gabby did the same last week after Bradford- talking realising how important each game is, fighting and never giving up - even though during the game he did nothing to try and encourage or cajole any of his team mates. Fed up of talk and no action. If they realise the perilous situation and are still doing nothing about it maybe that just highlights that they aren't good enough.

I wonder what he mans by "we will kep fighting"? I have not seen much of a fight lately. I would say it is time to START fighting, forget Bradford and both cups just concentrate on our slim chance of survival in the legue. This weekend would be a great time to start sorting the mess we are in. COTVABU

I should bloody hope they do 'keep fighting' whatever 'fighting' means (looking like rabbits caught in the headlights). Isn't that what they're paid for - aka doing your job? Can't blame them for being played out of position or not being good enough, but these press releases are just stupid. Treating us like idiots.

Stop talking start scoring. Play not talk.

to be fair, they can't really say much else. Can't say that any of them haven't tried and given their all this season (apart from Chelsea game) and THAT is what worries me, if they are giving their all, then some just aren't the grade.
The Fear
Keep fighting?.... We'll that would be nice.

Absolutely delighted to hear Cieran say that we are going to keep battling away. That really takes the weight of the world off of my Villa supporting shoulders. I thought we were in deep doo-doo for a moment there. Obviously not, we dont have numerous worries and concerns after all, nothing that the keep battling approach wont put right.

Would be nice, it'd make a change from rolling over and having our bellies tickled!

Agree, these press releases are an insult to our intelligence. We need to hear from the board, not 'made up quotes' from the team.

Hot air. Fluff. Stuff and nonsense. Change in some shape or form is needed NOW otherwise we will be massively at risk of dropping.

Oh look ,Southampton showed Chelsea how they can fight!

Very appropriate comment mickatkins21. Southampton are rolling up their sleeves and allowing their efforts to be concentated and focused on the pitch, as opposed to running their mouth's and spouting meaningless words. We've heard enough sweet talk in recent seasons, talk that is never backed up with action. Cieran Clark clearly means well, but come on guys, we the supporters have heard it all before.
