Lambert & Gabby - All To Play For Still

Lambert & Gabby - All To Play For Still

Couldn`t do this last night, neither could Mike.

Paul Lambert spoke after the humiliating defeat against a 4th division team on www.avfc.co.uk

The Villa boss promised they would come out fighting at Villa Park and promised a 'very different game`.

Talk on the pitch not off it right now.

Now fair enough, we are basically 'just` 2-0 down and it is half time. Plenty of time to correct this and get through (not convinced a trip to Wembley would be a great thing for us the way we are playing, but that is an argument for another day) Whatever the 'positives` a result last night is just not acceptable especially to the travelling fans who are usual, were immense.

Ok, so he talked of his disappointment and said the home leg they know "We're in a game now, that's for sure."

Adding that the defending wasn`t good enough..

'We had a lot of the ball and their keeper made some good saves but if you don't defend set-pieces that's what can happen. We had a lot of chances and on another night they might have gone in but that's certainly not good enough."

And on the home leg.... 'We're at home. We'll have the majority of the crowd with us. But we know what we have to do. We certainly have to play a lot better than that. It's a big game for us. It will be a different game at Villa Park, that's for sure. You have to regroup. That's what you have to do. We have to come out of the blocks. There's no grey area.'

And Gabby on www.avfc.co.uk says they will 'get the job done` next time.

He said: 'We all knew it was going to be tough coming to Bradford. It was a big occasion. But we're disappointed because we missed a lot of chances. On another day they would have gone in. But full credit to Bradford, they had a plan and it paid off for them."

Bradford also missed other chances, hit the post AND had one cleared off the line by Delph by the way.

On a positive note he adds, 'But it's over two legs. We know we've got work to do but we're relishing the challenge. We look to the second leg to put it right. We're hurting in the dressing room, definitely. But it's only half-time. We will go out sharp and looking to get the job done."

Happy days!

They are right, but that result and performance is the sign of a very poor side. If we were any good we would have got a draw at at least. It showed a worrying lack of character and quality. Sod this cup, i'm more concerned about relegation.

Forget about the cup, we are not anywhere near good enough to win a final. The huge problem we have is the league, our defense is the worst in our history and certainly in the league. We are sambolic, we ae nealyout of time, we have to get an experienced cenre half urgently. I am of the opinion that we will be playing Championship football next year, that in itself is bad enough, the awful part will be the smug look to Savages face, that will be hard to take. I still blame 70% of our plight on O'Neill, it was a very sad day he ever came to our club. COTVABU

Last 2 seasons you could look & say there's 3 worse teams than us ,we should survive. Can't say it this season & so far into the window it's getting worse not better. My main concern from last night is confidence not the cup . I wanted a decent result to build on Swansea & Ipswich. Now at home against Southampton I fear the worst . They'll be up for it,we'll be nervous ,lacking in confidence, crowd restless . I fear the worst

We have to sign a centre-back by Saturday or we're down.

a centreback and TWO midfielders at least, by saturday or Southampton will have us for breakfast and I think another home defeat and we'll be down. Every fan sees it but PL can't??? as for wembley does any Villa fan really want to see Chelski get a cricket score against us so creating the biggest ever defeat in a final? i'd rather we won the 2nd leg 1-0 and went out with at least some pride shown in the shirt. No names linked in the press yet again and yet PL said at the beginning of Dec that he knew what business he wanted to do in the transfer window? it appears to everyone else he doesn't have a clue!

Southampton, WBA, Bradford, Newcastle. Can any 4 games get bigger? Its make or break now for our season. I hope we don't fold under pressure.

Still not sure which part of our defence PL thinks is good enough, many state the results at Liverpool and Swansea, but had they been able to finish we could've been 5-0 down after half hour. We have a defence that would struggle in div 2 and I really mean that. However 2 experienced and solid ball winners in front of them would make all the difference and offer some protection, but sooner Roncrete and Dunny are fit the better

If Gabby is so insistant that he knows what is at stake why then, as one of the older heads in the team, wasn't he getting in to his team mates and telling them to get back in to shape and watch their men at set pieces? Words, words, more words but no actions. And before anyone says that isn't part of his game, what is his game exactly? Running fast and....eh....that's it. First touch and finishing are both poor so why do we pay him a wage? Because he's a fan? I'm a fan and I'll gladly run around like a headless chicken for the money he is on. I'd probable have a better strike rate though! No apologies from anyone at the club for the travelling fans either. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
