Lambert On Lescott

Well, maybe there is something in this afterall and the earlier panic about Paul Lambert not even being interested by experienced players can be somewhat put to bed - even though he's never actually said he wasn't.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Ipswich encounter, the obvious question was asked about Man City's Joleon Lescott, and the gaffer said.

'He's a top, top player. He's not getting a game at Manchester City at the minute. As I've said before, I will sit with the rest of the staff and see what I can do. But I don't think you can ever dismiss it any level whenever you are talking about a top player.'

Everything has already been said about Lescott that needs to be said, and most fans seemed bouyed by the fact Lambert will equally look at players of his calibre, whilst progressing with the youth, because his experience, if his desire and heart match what Lambert is looking for, would be ideal to help bring our youngsters on and provide them with that on pitch direction that they need to continue growing.

Lambert clearly does have his plans for this window as he's hinted at before:

'There are names we're trying to do. I think everyone has said it's a really tough window in January. We won't just get people in for the sake of getting them in, there is ridiculous money and that sort of thing, that's not something I'll do but there's one or two that we will try to.'

Maybe the next few weeks will be interesting?

I would love Lescott in our team as it stands, reliable and experienced centre back to help Clark and Baker learn the trade for the future.

Don't think that mankini wants him so they should surely pay him up most of his contract and hand him over on a free ;-)
Villan444
Yes please, although the cynical side of me says we don't have a chance of signing players of that calibre and Lambert is talking about them to make it look otherwise. But that's my cynical side, if only I could find the off button.

Well Lescott will be leaving a club buying its history for a club that earned its history and will always be a proper big club not fake plastic one, go get him Mr Lambert and you will see the smiles all around the ground from ear to ear +}

He's on 90k a week and would have to take a wage drop to leave C$teh to join us if the rumour is true. The problem for any player wishing to leave the Etihad now will be their daft wages, are they shooting themselves in the foot long term, I think so. We have some sort of wage structure at B6 but we would definately have to break that to land Lescott. Is he worth that, well we do need quality like his so yes from me.

Joleon Lescott or someone very much like him would be ideal for starters. I'd welcome him with open arms, and he's the right type of experienced quality player that this young team so desperately needs right now. He alone though wont improve our lot, we need another two, maybe three quality, experienced performers like him.

Definitely, please - Lescott is quality, and just what we need at the back right now. Something needs to be done about our midfield but I agree with Lambert's not just buying for the sake of it. Bit confused about him stating that nobody is leaving, that must include Darren Bent - who isn't getting games. Why keep him ? He'll be worth less in the summer, surely ?

Yes, yes, yes, yes. By the way, have I said..... Yes!

Lescott then Huddlestone please.

Joleon Lescott, Tim Cahill, Robbie Keane. Sorted.

Not one for the future, obviously, and we shouldn't be in the position of buying 31 year old players past their best... but we are in that position unfortunately.
Saurat
Wouldn't be a bad signing at all would it. Shame we can't get Cahill back really, what a stupid sale that was!

michael dawson was for sale in the summer would fit in also. badly need a creative midfielder too. whoever comes in in lambert we trust

I heard that the deal was 8m for Lescott I dont think it really matters he could hack it for 2 or 3 years before his age starts to show then around that time Baker should have developed a lot and Lescott could pull another 2 years as a solid backup/rotational player... I doubt we will pull the deal off tho so many things going against us... Also Keane would be a complete waste of time, money and effort...
