Grizzly: Mr Chairman Back in the romantic past of football's yesteryear the game was soulful and pure and your club could win things. In those times, the man at the top -Mr. Chairman- knew his place though that isn't to say that he wasn't respected. Having made his money in washing machines, drapery, haulage, stocks or some such business, he progressed to a life of civic function. Here, his success could be recognised, though after too many executive dinners and far too much time spent on the fairway he soon sought a new role; one worthy of a man of his civic status and business prowess. The football boardroom awaited. See: Click Here
Paul Brown: When Villa supporters recall the goals of Dean Saunders, a spectacular 40-yard dipping volley against this weekend's opponents Ipswich Town in February 1993 immediately springs to mind. Indeed, it was voted No. 2 in the DVD of Villa's 100 Greatest Premier League goals, beaten only by Dalian Atkinson's incredible solo effort against Wimbledon earlier that season. See: www.avfc.co.uk
Dan Harrison: Nathan Baker hails from a part of the country that is often associated with rugby rather than football. But the rough and tumble of the oval ball game has aided the Worcester-born defender in his pursuit of Barclays Premier League stardom. Baker had to deal with some hard knocks after making his Villa debut under Gerard Houllier in January 2011. But the academy graduate has come a long way since grabbing the attention of club scouts as a nine-year-old. See: www.avfc.co.uk
Post Swansea
Some games are endured more than enjoyed. This new years day coming together of Swansea and the claret and blues, was definitely one such game. Even when you win these type of games, you`re not too sure what it is that you`ve actually won, apart from the obvious three points on offer that is. We came very close to winning today, picking up three very valuable points in the process, and while it was frustratingly disappointing to throw away the lead and two precious points right at the death, looking at the game overall, and recalling what had gone before, particularly in the opening twenty to twenty five minutes of the first half, the very fact that we came so close to kicking off the new year in style with an away victory, is an amazing statistic in itself.
