'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dunne & Dusted & An Incoming Defender?

This is how you start a morning, Richard Dunne to the MLS and a 20 year old defender linked in.

It's being reported that a deal taking Richard Dunne to the MLS an New York Red Bulls has been done and dusted, baring one caveat...providing he can return to fitness before the window closes.

And yup, that's all there is on that one so far.

He is also, now, being linked via the Daily Mail to QPR. Hmmm.

In other news, we are being linked with Bologna's Frederik Sorensen.

The 20 year old joined from Juventus on a co-ownership deal (yeah could be muddy) and apparently he's been going from strength to strength, scoring his first goal against Parma a couple of weeks ago.

I bow to those who may know something about him, as I certainly don't.

Very important month for us January, both on and off the pitch. Certainly our immediate future will be a lot clearer when February the 1st arrives. Like your jolly good self Mike, I am in total ignorance of young Frederik Sorensen, so on the possibilities of him arriving at dear old Brum B6, or the impact he might have on our woefully weak defence, I can offer no insight. All I would say though, is like the majority of Villans out there, I believe that strengthening at the back is very much required, as we currently possess the weakest back four that I have seen at Villa Park in years. Perhaps the politest words to say right now, is that we currently dont possess a back four worthy of the name. Come to think of it, we dont possess a midfield worthy of the name either.

midfields the problem. defence is taking the stick here but are midfield is so weak teams like wigan just stroll through the midfield and give the defenders 90 minutes of hell. midfield is our problem. spend all transfer budget on midfielders
colavfc
Frederik Sorensen turns into a world-class defender on FIFA 13, so if the FIFA researchers are any good, I'd back that move all day long!
VillaHippo
definitely need more quality bodies in defence as we lack any cover but what is painfully obvious is that opposing teams walk through our midfield, who are equally as poor going forward as they are shielding our defenders
griffgriff
After reading a little bit about him, I say bring him in and quick! Also a few midfielders and wingers would be nice.
Avfc94 we do
Despite all the headlines, I think that we'll be alright defensively. Our midfield is the problem. Need a creative player who cam play a killer ball like yesterday.
Villa_Grizzly
it, I mean him - bed's calling! lol
mike_field
Can those who know a bit about it, let us lot know lol
mike_field
I've been saying for ages, multiple transfer windows that we need a bloody MAN in midfield. A man who can tackle and block and harrass and crunch the phuk out of a gmae, week in, week out. Surely mto McGrath, if I can see it, why can't three managers in a row. I know I'm not wrong on this one! Get thee a manfielder Lambert, please.
koolbill
A 20 yr old!? So if he did come, we could play him in the U21s yes?........ Plenty of experience there then..... ffs!!!!!!
Pride of Lions
I agree that they should be focusing on signing mid field players as that's by far the major weakness in our squad
AdzVilla11
According to the BBC website PL has a budget of 10 million in January - Goodnight Vienna!!! - unless he pulls some really good signings out of the hat for free or next to nothing. Surely Lerner has to sell up and get out and let somebody else try and keep us up.
wenttorotterdam
The world has gone mad.. We look at ONLY 10 million to spend and say that a chairman who has spend 150 million at least already should go. A chairman who has backed every manager.

Looks like a right back on You tube , nothing really to see
villan57
That 10 million will be a smokescreen. Surely? Unless we are going to do some half season loan signings which could be exactly what we need.

Just add my vote - midfield is the problem. How can it be said it is the worst defence or no defence? Yes last 3 games, but I saw the defence as the platform to build on before that. Baker and Vlaar missing hasn't helped either, but the main problem is that they fall to pieces because of relentless pressure caused too often by stats of around 80/ 20 possession against us. Godfrey/ Mortimer/ Cropley/ Bremner type characters needed in midfield, and our defence will look different again.
stennyvilla
Got to be midfield for me, as said above, the Defence are taking a battering for our midfield failings!
Charizma
Midfield is definitely a problem, but you build from the back. We've got Brad and now we need the next line sorted before the ball gets to midfield. Also playing the likes of Bannan in midfield is a joke. Too small and slow and weak. Sad but true.
Villan444
Really hope it`s true and dunne is gone in january
NI Villan
Our focus has to be on getting a strong, ball winner into our midfield. I dont buy this thing that a player is to slow or small to play in our team as well look at the likes of Xavi and even Bremner, not the biggest or quickest but I think to say they did a decent job would be fair. Really bugs me to see Makoun not getting a chance this year, can only think it must be due to wages or him just not wanting to be at Villa. Learner give Lambert the money for a Parker/Barry type player please.
