Headline sort of says everything following that performance and the result doesn't it.
I have one positive...I don't believe the players heads dropped. They kept attacking however futile it may have been today. Before November the heads would've gone and on today's showing it could've been double figures.
But the effort and determination to bust a gut really wasn't there today, and that's the most disappointing thing. We've had performances like this before where a 5 yard pass is as difficult as passing a kidney stone, and attempting to control the ball makes you think the team are playing in concrete boots BUT in recent games we've pulled ourselves out of that by sheer bloody grit and determination. We didn't today.
Bad day at the office yes. Freak result yes. We are going to be up and down, and does the result change the progress of our 6 (all in) unbeaten run no and it shouldn't. We were playing Chelsea and that's the best I've seen them play in a long while. It defines our season no more or less than the Liverpool result did.
But days like this aren't acceptable and the players must show they know that. Go down giving your all is all we ask, we didn't give our all today and that hurts.
Anyway, Lambert's after match on the Official Site.
'Everything that could go wrong went wrong. We have been on a really good run but we got beaten up today. We were second best. We never turned up. We have been beaten pretty heavily, but we were second best all over. This will be a wake up call for us, that. We will bounce back! I am sure whoever plays on Wednesday will atone for that.'
And I really hope this line is as true as I want it to be.
'They know themselves that they have let everybody down.'
Let's not let this get in the way or blow the progress we have seen in recent games. That would be a real travesty.
