Forrester To Return?

Brief reports today suggest that Villa are in the hunt for former youngster Harry Forrester.

It's being suggested that Paul Lambert has kept tabs on the 21 year old at Brentford and could be looking to buy him back for 300,000.

Southampton and Reading are also supposedly keen.

Villa stole a march on Man U and Spurs to capture Forrester originally for 1m back in 2008, but he was released after not impressing either O'Neill or McLeish.

Not seen him play myself, but I heard good reports about him from friends.

Yeah, I noticed this. Not sure what to think. Buy him back and reloan him straight back out? I honestly don't know.....

O'Neill and McLeish were not impressed? They were both impressed with Heskey though. He is too small to fit in to either of their styles - kick and rush counter attack/ 9-0-1 hoof ball. At the time he was reported as being a Beardsley-type player, capable of scoring himself but technically gifted and able to provide for others. Someone who operates "in the hole". He was at Ajax for a while after he was released too, but that didn't work out. Must have had something once to attract the suitors he did at the time. If he comes I hope he still has it.

I was always of the opinion that he was quite a decent prospect, he certainly rarely failed to impress me whenever I saw him play. I was very surprised that we let him leave, believed it to be a strange decision. He always looked a better all-round prospect that Marc Albrighton, more naturally talented, more aware.

In general Im pretty much excited about anyone PL intends to get given how good Westwood has turned out... My mates took the opportunity to poke fun at Villa for their signings laughed at Lowton, Westwood and Benteke look at them now... I remember when we got him the Text on SSN said he has the potential to be like Rooney and other similar remarks...

Slightly off topic, whats the current info on G. Gardner? He's Villa's Jack Wilshire or Wilshire is Arsenal's Gardner. Would like to see Gardner or someone at Villa develop into a Pirlo type player. Pirlo is, arguably, the best player in the world and that type of player is very, very hard to find. Maybe Gardner is the man?

For those who say Messi and CR7 are the best, would either of them have their current goals-per-game ratio in the EPL, Serie A, or the Bundesliga? probably not. La Liga is the SPL with snob appeal. Pele, Maradona and Cruyff were the men. The greatest ever. Zidane and Brazilian Ronaldo were probably better than Messi too. A few others -- di Stefano, Moore, Puskas, Beckenbauer -- have a shout as well.

Villa are also supposed to be in for Luke Murphy @ Crewe!!!

VWRA - When you say Moore do you meanLuke or Steffan? I think both were better than Messi
Chelt Villan
It was naturally Bobby Moore, Chelt. Perhaps not a good choice though as he was a defender and you can't compare. I think Messi is a terrifc player but a lot of people seem to have lost their critical facilties and forgotten who went before and what they achieved. If he wins the Ballon D'or big deal. Beckham finsihed runner-up twice for its predecessor award. DB7/23 the worlds second best player? Yeah right!!!

I think that is almost impossible to make comparisons from past players to present the game has changed more than I would have thought possible 40 years ago. Tackling these days is just barely tolerated in Peles day they kicked him off the field and you were lucky to see anyone booked. But todays players are twice as fit but more prone to injury than yesteryears bunch. The likes of Tommy Smith and Norman Hunter would spend their time on permanant suspension thses days. The nearest person I can compare with Messi is the late George Best in his prime.

If he hadn't have gotten injured many people believe that Gary Shaw would've became one of Europe's greatest players. The name Paul McGrath is virtually unknown outside the UK and Ireland. Certain great players are forgotten by history or are merely unfashionable. The same with clubs. It's up to the fans to keep the history alive.
