Match Of The Day Praise Christian Benteke

Nice compliments on Match of the Day last night from the pundits about Christian Benteke.

Lawro said on the man mountain striker:

"Benteke has a bit of everything about him. He`s a big fella, he has lots of ability, is extremely strong on the ball, but he has more than that. His goal was a really, really good strike".

Benteke scoring

Adding, "He`s honest, can sort out a pass, he will run all day for you" and then on the back heeler to Weimann for the goal he said 'it was just absolutely brilliant." Finishing "you also can`t knock him over...!"

Too right, some have tried to knock our Tyson over, all have failed!

And Alan Shearer said with a huge smile on his face "I think that is one of the best centre forward performances I`ve seen this season."

Adding, "It had everything from him. He was big, he ran the channels, scored two very good goals and set one up. It just had everything and he bullied the two centre halves. Great to see."

Another fine performance from the big man. Could be the best player to have donned a Villa shirt for many years. As PL says, his potential is scary. I keep having to remind myself that he's only 21!!

Don't remind yourself he's 21 Pundit..... he's 22 now.... birthday a few weeks ago. But brilliant, what a player we've snapped up here..... must be worth more than Bent by now... if not, very soon. Pity we are NOT SELLING......

Shame that MOTD did their best to suggest Liverpool should have had a penalty. " he is clearly pulling his shirt " Yes dear, he is pulling Clark's shirt too'

What are the odds of 2/3 Villa players being on the shortlist for PFA Young player of the year?

I have been fortunate to witness many outstanding Villa Park centre-forwards throughout the years. Tony Hateley, Andy Lochhead, Andy Gray, Peter Withe, immediately spring to mind. This young man, Christian Benteke, has the potential and ability to surpass them all in the Villa Park legend stakes. Hopefully PL can build a quality and successful team around him, a scenario that will ensure that Christian is happy and content to remain at Villa Park for many years to come.

Thats my hope too Glen I think some early success could be the key and our run in the League Cup is our best opportunity for many a year... If we can win it it will make all our young players hungrier for success, attract more players, maybe it might give Randy the itch to really push through PLs lofty plans and importantly it should help keep our players because they will remember that success and know we can do it again... Thats my hope anyway...

Like all Villa fans here I am so impressed with Benteke, however The fact that this Colossus striker has taken all the headlines, rather puts into the background of the rise of Weimann. For me he deserves as much credit as Benteke. He so reminds me of Gary Shaw and I can see no way back now for Gabby, unless as a impact player. He is certainly third choice now. As for Bent, think we should keep him till the summer, in case Benteke gets injured. I pray to God that doesn't happen, because neither does Bent posses half the creativity that Benteke does, I mean could you imagine Bent EVER having the forward thinking to make THAT back heel ? and without Benteke, Weimann is half the player. Shaw & Withe, Keegan & Toshack - they really could be that good. So come on you Villa boys lets give Wee Weimann the credit he deserves. It takes two to Tango and Tango we will all the way to Europe .... UTV

lets hope he keeps it up for the rest of the season. We need consistency in front of goal. He's also missed a hat full of great chances in earlier games, Hopefully he will remain in this consistent form going forward.

Anyone looking to Januarys window with confidence of two or three experienced players coming in? Especially as Hutton is off the books? If I was an experienced player coming in I'd be thinking "phook me all these lads are 22, hope my opta stats are good!" And on that basis of experience and fitness, who would we be looking at? Not Anelka as he is too expensive but boy can he run the channels and chip in with goals as well! Robbie Keane? I cannot think of any midfielders at the moment...gotta say though, for creativity and strength and shooting I would snatch Kone off Wigan if they go down and we stay up.

Would take Robbie Keane back again for 5 or so games and i'm sure he'd be wiling to come back after last season. He can play the Holman role behind Benteke and Weimann. Now that would be interesting to see

Wouldn't take Keane now. No way he'd be able to cover quarter the ground that Holman does. He was on megabucks last year and not right on the other players. Also we went right downhill as soon as his loan spell ended. It's a happy camp and a megastar ego will upset the cart...

Id rather not see Keane join us I didn want him last year either he is a decent link up player but thats what Benteke does now and despite Keane not really being a mercenary he doesnt fit the philosophy IMO... Rumours are we want Harry Forester back then theres the James Henry link... Given Westoods emergence Im much more open to the idea of giving somebody like Henry a chance... My 'theory' is PL will bring in 1 or 2 lower league guys again and sign another player from the continent with potential similar to Benteke... Takashi Inui is the type of guy who would significant quality but cost wise it might be more than Benteke since Frankfurt are doing so well plus there was a rumour Dortmund want him too... What I would like is a player capable of playing wide and another who is a creative force who has good movement off the ball, decent dribbling and sharp passing and one of these players should be capable of taking FKs and Corners... Lallana, Inui, Tom Ince, Cristian Erikson, Marcus Henrikson... Realistically most of them might be out of reach but those are the types Id be looking those players are the skillsets I believe we are missing... Our team is extremely workman like and there is nothing wrong with that but it is an issue when you play someone like Stoke... Benteke is the only one with some Flair, Nzog has flair but are his days numbered? who knows... It'll be interesting to see how Gabby, Ireland and Nzog respond in January and thereafter as the current side is looking pretty settled and in the case of Ireland and Nzog the players who I think will come in will be in direct competition for their places...

rodgers has also peeved me a little with his press conference after the game. Liverpool apparently were flat, (probably no argument there, but your opposition is usually the one flattening and you can still win games when not on key) they made bad decisions in the first 20 minutes and could of gone 3-0 up I don't have much problem with that assertion either .. Villa looked ropey and disorganised and were making mistakes at the back - Liverpool had chances ... they didn't take them though .. and so comes to a close the first 20 minutes let me just reitertate ... the first 20 mins ... of a 90+ minute game He then goes on to describe the villa goals as .. "Poor" , "sloppy" and "bad" ... at three different points. Eh sorry Mr rodgers, but none of these goals were from a set piece or were scramble in the box. they were all a showcase of individual or team clinical precision on the counter attack ... the second of which could be an outside contender for goal of the season. .. so he focuses on the first 20 minutes and admits that his players were flat, they under performed and through bad decision making conceded 3 "poor/bad/sloppy " goals ... eh correct if i am wrong brendan ... but it looks like there is more too it than just players underforming to lose a game 1-3 at home to a supposedly struggling team ... is there not one thing in this entire match that you as a manager can take responsibility for? Or is it just liverpool had the perfect plan but just failed to execute it ... If the the opposing team were so rubbish jusdging by how you would describe the quality of their goals on saturday surely a manager of your calibre could inspire or extract some sort of an adequate performance from to avoid being 0-3 down on 86mins ... ? thats right the first 20 mins yeilded no goals .. and actually represents less than a quarter of the game .. its the next 70 mins or so where ya know .. your team conceded 3 goals and were repelled for 77 mins That to me is a more obvious conclusion from this game .. very annoying .. how there seemed to be no other thing relevant besides outplayed liverpool team ... Mr Rodgers... you could also think about a Plan b .. a couple of ineffective subs and being 3-0 down probably means that you should try to change things up a bit .. something you could learn from your counterpart on the day .. Mr Lambert ... maybe give some credit where credit is due?

CDX: totally agree with you and 444, I just truly believe we need a Lallana and possibly, Snodgrass would've been perfect. Thank Vlaar we didn't get Johnson from Man City! Ince would be interesting but isn't he a striker? We'd have to bin off Gabby for definite...I think you're dead right about Ireland and Nzo, both on their way out and probably to somewhere obscure like QPR! Bye lads. Ireland flatters to deceive and our youngsters are showing class and effort and consistency. I picked up on MoTD pundits saying our defenders are "hundred percenters" as if it's just about running and blocking. These boys are very talented and now, under the mercurial development and trust of PL they are finally being able to grow, unlike under MoN / Voldercleish where they were stifled by stale stalwarts!!!!

Right on the money Koolbill I am delighted with how Clark has grown into his roll he really has stepped up with Vlar injured and Baker has turned in rock solid performances full of courage. I am just as impressed with Bentke as everyone else and Wiemann but not forgetting the unsung back row either.Dont want to undervalue what PL has already achieved but I am sure we will have a few downers with such a young side but every week is an exciting adventure again after 3 years ho hum.
