Benteke's Potential Is Absolutely Frightening

After another monsterous performance from the big man Christian Benteke, Paul Lambert has waxed lyrical about how good this lad could actually be.

Speaking to the Official Site after ending the week on the perfect high, Lambert said of Benteke:

'I have seen that sort of thing all along. You run out of things to say about the big guy. He's unbelievable. He's 22 and he can be anything he wants. He's a top lad too which is important. His partnerships - whether it's with Andi, Darren, Gabby - it seems everyone likes playing alongside him. He's been sensational for us. There aren't many who can push him off the ball, that's for sure. He's got the potential to be one of the best. I don't want to put too much pressure on him but the potential for someone as young as that is an absolutely frightening thought.'

Anybody disagree?

Don't want to spoil the party but how long do we think he'll stay at VP?

As long as he and the club to Saurat...Don't forget he's still learning and next season may be harder once defences figure him out..

Proves that you dont need to spend 30m on a player, all you need is good scouts and a bloke that knows what hes doing.

I have to admit....Paul Lambert makes Martin O'Neill look like a fool in the transfer market. We might be onto something big here. Once this young squad matures with the confidence, we could be a real threat.

Holding on to Benteke is only half the battle. Holding on to Lambert is the other half. Fergie, Wenger, Benitez and maybe Mancini are on their way out. Guardiola can't manage four clubs.

Lambert is not stupid enough to go to Chelsea, nor is Guardiola. Mind you, they could always have Rodgers who will soon also be a free agent.

He is going nowhere. 5 months in to a 4 year deal. The club will not sell him under any price. Randy doesn't need the money and we are no longer a selling club unless we decide to sell. When he gets into the summer we may well look to extend and improve his deal. He looks like he's here for at least 4 years. Seems to be really made up with his move and he loves the gaffer.

Benteke is eveything that Carew could have been if his mind was on the job, and everythng Heskey should have ben all rolled in to one package. And yes, he also reminds me of Drogba at his best, but I WILL tackle the Chelski interlopers with this message: F*%$ OFF, HE'S OUR BEAST, FIND YOUR OWN.

All good saying hes our beast etc. but a player as good as he is, if ofcourse he carrys on from this unreal start in claret and blue then it wont be long till the biggest/best clubs in the game come sniffing we'll make a tidy profit on the bright side but unless we pull of a miracle in the next 2 seasons and attack the "top 4" a player of that quality will want to be playing for the best clubs winning the best trophys

Benteke was unplayable!! Beast pretty much takes the cake for best adjective describing his performance. Would also like to give Baker his dues. He made some incredible challenges and was solid today. He could be an important player for us for some time.

Our team works perfect. No big age gap so most of the players don't have big egos. Lams like the dad lol. @ChelseaFans; Don't You Wish Your Striker Was "BEN-TE-KE" :)

IF this team is allowed to grow together, with an addition of two or three quality players, Tekkers could achieve all he wants to achieve here at Villa. Why go anywhere else?!

My take on things is that if demba ba or cisse or a few others like holte were in Benteke's position then they could've done aswell. It's the manager that's made him. Don't get me wrong, he's unplayable at times ( and fair play to him ) but PL has to take some credit for letting him do what he does best!! He's too good for us long term though. No doubt.

Well 444....hopefully we are a long term project and can be competitive aka Everton. I believe the winds of change are shifting and we will go full circle where by clubs will invest in youth and not silly amounts of money...either that or football will die

You know what will happen - Chelsea or Man City will stump up mega money that Villa won;t be able to resist and then put him on the bench - they did the same with Milner so as it takes away the competition and reduces Villa's effectiveness - hence we don't get into the champions League - the big boys are too big and can have anyone they want - it should be stopped. Pity there is no way of doing what they did to speedway in the 80's where you had a team limit to stop teams running away with the league.

I have to disagree whitey - the key to this is Lambert and his scouting team. Look at Arsenal and Man United - they sell their top players all the time. The constant though is their managers. So long as Lambert stays and is able to get the best out of our team, we will become a force in the Premier league again. Just imagine how scary this team will be if Lambert gets another 50 million to spend (from say the sale of Benteke :P).

Some of the moaners on here are unreal. Never does a day pass without one of then wanting to stick a fly in the ointment. We've brought some incredibly promising young players, the Lambert magic is working and now we're going to 'sell the players,' and that 'they're too good for us.' If we had done poorly Lambert would be a questionable manager and the players wouldn't be good enough for Aston Villa, which is what they said last month. Snore fest. Chnage the record lads.

What if Benteke's boyhood club Arsenal come in for him in the summer with a 20m bid ? Would Villa say no and then have an incredible sulk on their hands?

My thoughts to cropped, we are a selling club now, so not getting excited about our players because under Lerner, when they become an asset they're gone, which means when benteke improves as he will, he'll be gone.

Oh Jeez, here we go again with the 'we are a selling club now'. *Every* club is a selling club toro - from top to bottom they've *all* been forced to ship players out when other teams came in for them. It's the way of football these days.

In all honesty i think Benteke would stay there seems to be something loyal about him and also PL has something about him that i think players want to stick around with him its clear we at villa are on the move and im sure the players can since that. As for Villa444 saying we are not good enough to keep a player then thats just an outrageous statement to say about your own club disappointed mate would expec that from you !

black_villian, what I said is that he's too good for us. Even Arsenal can't keep their players these days. He is good enough to earn top monies but only a few clubs will pay that. It's a shame but what I was trying to get at is that Lambert should be able to do the same with the next bloke and so on. He's as good an all round striker with all the potential. It's only Spurs that manage to blackmail their players and keep them at WHL on average wages for years.

Hope you're right Steve and its definitely the way forward but as others have said, there'll always be an oil rich club who will make them multi millionaires to keep their bench warm!!! Only 11 players can start so he'd be mad to move so soon and before he was guaranteed a place in the team. Long term though, can't see him hanging around.

444, you make me laugh mate. You say Bent isnt good enough for us and doesnt do enough so you want rid, then you say Benteke does everything you want in a striker so hes too good for us and hes gonna be gone to. Who actually do u want in our team? Weve all got players we prefer but cant you for once just enjoy what weve got?

Gibbo, I'm not the only realistic one around here saying that he'll move on IF we don't step up with both wages and fellow teammates. I admire PL, he's got the team playing well no matter who interchanges except Benteke. Fergie has done the same at Manure. Half their squad over the years has been average, BUT they'll always have a couple of World Class players to make the difference. The rest of the team are just good at following orders and obviously half decent but wouldn't get into a lot of teams. We have the start of this organisation. We just need a couple more players of top class. I can't think of another striker than RVP, Rooney and Aguero that I'd rather have than Benteke. Of course I'm glad that he's here but am going to be seriously *****ed off if he gets poached. We'd be an average team without him. There's nothing that we can do about it other than dedicate a few chants and sing his name and chant to Randy not to let him go by signing him up on a better deal ASAP.

If Benteke wants to go he'll go & if he wants to stay it depends on Lerner & co . That's the way it is

Nothing wrong with being realistic think if Bentke keeps going at his present rate a lot of clubs will sit up and take notice its the way things are. Lets hope PL can persuade the lad not to have his head turned I would also be worrying about a few others among our young team not least Clark and Baker. The key is success if they start winning together they will stay together not much point moving if you can do what you want were you are.

I agree with Merlin...success is the key..if we continue to win nothing and challenge for nothing we'll lose our better players...but if we can break into the top four....that puts us in a much better position. If Benteke does eventually go...I trust Lambert and the current scouting team to find a few more i'm not overly worried.
