Lambert Pleased To Prove The Doubters Wrong

Paul Lambert has heaped credit on the players again today, especially Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke.

Speaking to Sky Sports following our 3-1 victory a very chuffed Lambert said:

'I thought we were outstanding, I think we're playing really well at the moment. We looked a threat with Christian and Andy up front and I thought we deserved to win the game, to be honest. Andy is a natural finisher, if you look at the build up play to the goal, there were some world class goals - there was the back heel and the finish. Benteke was outstanding and I thought Andy was fantastic for us again. The back three lads are getting better and better, you look at the age of them as well, they're very young. We've been on a terrific run but collectively we've been outstanding.'

As for the doubters in pundit land he added:

'A couple of months ago every was criticising. I knew what I was getting, it just needed a little bit of time, and they've been absolutely brilliant. That group deserves every bit of credit that comes their way.'

Fantastic ballsy performance, and the result went for us today. We aren't the finished article, and there will still be bumps, but the team is starting to show us what it can do, and when get that consistently safety for the season is more than achievable, and then we can build again in the summer to really push on and get back to where we know we should be.

I doubt this will be the final comment Lambert makes tonight, be nice to hear from a few of the players as well.

Enjoy it tonight, and then knuckle down and prepare for the next match and hopefully get ourselves on a good little run now to really take the pressure off.

I just hope Randy is seeing some of these games and getting the hunger to see Villa achieve again... It would be great to stay unbeaten til Jan... In Lambert We Trust

Performance was sensational today, 2nd goal was pure class. Incredible when you think about the team we had playing; Guzan 28, Clark (c) 23, Baker 21, Herd 23, Lowton 23, Lichaj 24, Westwood 22, Bannan 23, Holman 28, Weimann 21, Benteke 22 and then think about the other young lions in our ranks; Gardner, Bennett, Carruthers, Delph etc.. It's so exciting. If we can keep this young group of players together (and 'if' is a big word here - expect all the big guns to be linked to Benteke very soon!) and build around them with some more decent signings, there's no doubt in my mind that under PL's guidance we'll be fighting for Champions League Places again in a couple of seasons. The future is bright, make no doubt about it.. UTV!

Awesome goals. Watching Benteke waltz through the defence, shrugging of the likes of Allen and Agger was awesome. Unplayable.

Take a look at Charlie Nichols 5-min review on Sky's website. Has been a very long time since I've seen a pundit heap praise like that on the Villa. Excellent stuff!

A wonerful team effort and yes they are getting better and better. Tekkers is a gold nugget, make no mistake. It's hard to mention just one from the defence, but I thought Baker again was immence!

not sure he needs to prove anyone wrong, just the Villa fans RIGHT in their unbelievable support and faith in him?

CDX longer than January would be good too

Quite right Jonathan. The very mast majority of the support have been fully behind PL and his team since day one, not raising a dissenting voice even after some rather poor offerings scattered throughout the season. Proving those very same fans to be right and fully justified for their patience and/or understanding, should be the one and only brief for Paul and his team. There's absoutely no need to go about proving anyone wrong. Take that route, and you're setting yourself up for a mighty fall.
