'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Delighted With Semi Final Chance

Paul Lambert has waxed lyrical about our performance last night, and said it's brilliant for the club and the fans to have had such a successful Cup run so far.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert hinted that after a few season's of disappointment in the Cup, it's good to see Villa having something to look forward too again this season:

'No matter who you get you're going to get a full house, home and away. It will be brilliant, brilliant for the club. It's had a lot of heartache for the past two years or so, but this gives the fans something to look forward to. For a few weeks now we've been playing really well, we've come through a really hard run that's really demanding. I think we are an easy target for people saying we're young and all that but we're playing very well, extremely well and the lads have been brilliant. I couldn't fault the lads with the way they played. It's another building block.'

Lambert continues the team praise and says we will only continue to get better, pointing to Charles N'Zogbia coming back after injury and with us still missing Ron Vlaar and Joe Bennett for a bit, the strength of the squad can only improve.

It's great of course, but we don't want it deflecting away from our league position, results and performances. We need o get up that table.

lets hope we get to Wemberly. We need to translate these perfomances to the premier league and we will shoot up the table.

Pride. You call it right in my book. Prem survival is the be-all and end-all. Nothing else matters. Not even a League Cup. Point at Anfield please. Or three!

Agreed Pride of Lions. We dont want to repeat Birmingham City's season of success/disaster. We need premier league victories, and we need them asap.

I don't see it "deflecting" from the league, if anything it will inspire confidence and belief, but I suppose you can find a negative in a positive performance and result if you're that way inclined. B'ham city? We are better than that. We've got McPromoter, not McRelegator.

The cup is nice distraction from the league and seems to have given the lads a chance to play without pressure, great win at Citeh and again at Norwich. If the form shown there is translated back to the league, there will be nobody looking over their shoulders come May. Can win at Liverpoo, onwards and upwards.
