Paul Lambert Rounds On Negative Book Swallower!

LOL, some very strange and funny quotes as highlighted in the Birmingham Mail from Paul Lambert today.

Is this pressure? Is he usually narky with press? Whatever, made me laugh!

He apparently asked one journalist if he`d swallowed a 'negative book` adding, "Every question you ask is negative. Gabby is playing well...really, really well."

at an angle press conference

To be fair, it is the presses job to ask questions and the questions are pretty obvious at the moment, we are short on goals aren`t we?

"The team is going really fine. I have no problem with Gabby. If that`s your take on it, that`s your take on it."

He also refused to talk any further about Darren Bent saying he had already answered 305 questions about him the other night. Which is fair, he did answer the same question about 20 times and at some stage we all have to accept, it is his job to make these decisions, he gets the plaudits if right, he gets sacked if not I guess, as is the way with football.

lam in shade

"I want to win the game. It`s not rocket science." And says on the lack of goals, "It`s not something I`m actually overly worried about, because I know it will come."

He also pointed to a 'really really fine` run of games, four unbeaten and 3 clean sheets.

Aston Villa 0 - 0 Stoke
Q.P.R. 1 - 1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa 1 - 0 Reading
Aston Villa 0 - 0 Arsenal

Not sure that it is worth getting narky with the press though, you need them on your side and it is their job to ask relevant questions. The Bent situation, agree or not, is a big decision made by the manager. The lack of goals is an obvious problem. Not sure I like it when managers start to 'turn` on press because it shows that things are pressured or not quite right. Or am I reading that wrong?

Oh to be a fly on the wall at some of these things!

Quicker we pull away from the lower end of the table, the quicker the pressure will start to lift. One great positive is the team don`t seem to be letting it get to them, which for a young side, is outstanding really. A win v Norwich and 3 points at Anfield wouldn`t make for a bad week would it?! There, I`ve just swallowed a positive book!

It could simply be that PL, like everybody else, is sick and tired of hearing the same questions time after time after time because journalists are as lazy as sin and can't be bothered to come up with anything original ...
BobTheBuilder
I can't remember the exact quote but when PL was leaving Norwich I read a blog post from a Norwich fan how was discussing what they'd miss about Lambo. He did say that the press conferences and answers were not very forthcoming. I think it is Lambo's way to keep his cards close to his chest, well it clearly is. We like to read a lot into stuff but I cannot imagine him giving much away in any press conference. The only quotes they'll get are the jokes so they should stick with it. Personally, I like his style as you suggest JF he'll live or die by his decisions and that's good enough for me. At least we know where we stand

I don't think its the pressure getting to him as said above this seems to be Lambert's style in dealing with the press plus he is protecting the players like Gabby from criticism which is the sign of a good manager tbh he takes the pressure off the players!
CLIVETHEVILLAN
The great Ron Saunders had a somewhat clipped style with the press. It never did him any harm.

You have to play the press game these days though really. If not, they turn quicker. His quotes made me laugh though, but then, I wasn't at the end of the answers to what are pretty standard questions! lol He is young, he will hopefully have a long time at this management part of his career, he could make it easier on himself than allowing them to annoy him. Then again, Sir Alex Chewalot has spent a good part of his career chewing the presses ears off and he has done relatively ok in his time! lol
The Fear
I think we will beat Liverpool they will come out and play us which will make them nice and open which will aid our cause to create more chances... If we take our chances at the weekend we will beat them...
CDX_EIRE
I'd be a bit *****ed off with having to answer the same question time after time. Why don't the press look at the positives. Because the negatives are what sells papers most of the time! As we know the Bham mail is usually anti Villa and the national press seems to follow suit. So are we really bothered if we play the press game? Take last season for instance the previous manager was a shining light in the medias eyes and we the supporters didn't know what we were talking about.
onlyoneteaminaston
they get paid ok to put up with the major inconvenience of having to answer a few questions onlyoneteaminaston mate?

Yes, agreed CDX_Eire, started the Liverpool match thread saying the exact same thing, just got a funny feeling!
The Fear
I dont know how some managers keep their real thoughts in check. Id have flipped my lid a long time ago with having to keep answering the same question. It must get so tedious... All we get anyway is the standard generic answers anyway....I thought we played well.... the boys showed great effort.....I thought we were unlucky....blah blah blah..... Its about time someone told it how it is!!!
GibboVilla
We'll have goals in January ...... Jozy Altidore is on his way ;) UTV
astonmilan
................ as for the press, how many times does Lambert have to repeat his squad policies and tactics ??? ......... mind you, if it was only 2 times, its a lot more times did Bent touched the ball on Saturday lmao.
astonmilan
..........* replace 'did' with 'than' ..... please. UTV

PL commands the conference and the press will learn this over time and that's a better way of having things than the press picking the team for him or trying to unsettle what seems a happy camp. He's always been like this throughout his career.
Villan444
I like the way he talks to the press, he's clearly just brushing them off as much as he can and giving them as little as possible. He's protecting the team and doing the right thing in my opinion, some things are left behind closed doors.
AdzVilla11
So it's OK to wax lyrical about a couple of positives, but when questions are asked about something important - and currently negative, the toys are thrown out of the pram..... I see......
Pride of Lions
Oh, and while we're at it "Gabby is playing really, really well"? I'd like to know where..... BH possibly!......
Pride of Lions
Answered questions about Bent 305 times? PL's mum has told him a thousand times not to exaggerate.
Rowley Villa
PoL, the press are trying to get a story to sensationalise something. PL is just fobbing them off and they're not getting whatever he really thinks. Fair enough that we're not setting the world alight but we definitely, definitely don't bow to the press. This isn't the right area to moan about.
Villan444
ABOUT TIME! these idiots have been asking the same lazy rubbish for weeks now .
