Positives To Be Taken From Stoke

Positives To Be Taken From Stoke

Paul Lambert believes the lads more than admirably matched Stoke's physical presence, and he was delighted to see us dominate the game.

Speaking to the Official Site after the 0-0 draw, the gaffer said he was pleased with how we coped in terms of the physical pressure Stoke are notorious for, but did admit he was a little disappointed we could create the clear chance and finish we needed to take a deserved victory from the performance.

'I thought we dominated the game, definitely. I was delighted with the way they coped with Stoke's strength. I thought we used our strength and we tried to play football too. I thought we were excellent in parts of the game, on another day we might have had one or two. If we can just get the finishing touch - it just didn't materialise.'

Speaking more about our goalscoring exploits - or the lack thereof, Lambert added he wasn't worried because it will come in time.

'It's not something I'm actually overly worried about, because I know it will come. I have belief that we will create and that we will score.'

Well defensively things are coming together, and midfield is looking better, the final piece is the combination up front. Some argue we need a truly creative midfielder, but we are creating chances as we go, but just not taking them. Benteke is growing in confidence, and some would say it's looking more likely that we need to stumble on a Benteke/Weimann combination that will give us the best shot of creating, holding and scoring but in terms of initial gelling if up front can follow the progress elsewhere on the pitch, this annoying draws will turn into three points over time.

Lambert's moves in January will be very interesting depending on how he focuses when it comes to strengthening.

Well many of us were worried about getting bullied by them land of the giants, but we wasn't and it was only us trying to get three points today, that creative player and winger are clearly needed, but our defence is looking reliable over the past month, Baker Clark Lowton Westwood Bannan Benteke and herd oh and Lichaj all young and growing, our passing was good just not enough chances created come January we can get this sorted and start turning these draws into three points hopefully! UTV!

People keep talking about this one or two creative players, but the truth of it is, if you want a creative performance, you need a creative team. You look at the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, and there's creativity all over the pitch. I think what we need to see is an increase in positive creativity from everyone - with a few "flair" players who are able to inspire this in the younger folks. I think this is what a lot of folk are suggesting when they say we need some quality alongside our kids.

All this "will come, will come" stuff I assume will come in January? Roll on January is all I can say!

hahahahaha classic Pride. I really hope PL has another card up his sleeve in the same ilk of Benteke in Jan. Also can anyone tell when was the last time Randy attended a game? Just curious.

You can only play what's in front of you and Stoke didn't want to play. Another clean sheet, just need that bit of creativity from the team as a whole and a bit more speed and flow in the passes up front. 3 points would have been good but we weren't bullied or put under the cosh like we used to be against Stoke, if anything they looked very wary of our youngsters UTV

If we put a creative midfielder alongside Westwood who is going to get stuck in. Who will be our new Stan or Milner? Will need a five man midfield

I hoped for a 1-0 but thought we would get bullied. Pleasantly surprised to see this was not the case. Still lack penetration with the final ball or the nouse to switch it up. EXPERIENCE STILL NEEDED! Lowest scorers in the league says it all. I know it isn't all about scoring goals, but you don't win matches without scoring them. Goal difference was important to us last year as it effectively gave us an extra point against our rivals at the bottom. Worrying to think how bad our goal difference is now.
