'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Pre Stoke

Paul Lambert has refused to criticise Stoke's more direct style of play, choosing instead to focus on the challenge they will be for our lads.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, Lambert said he was impressed with what Tony Pulis has achieved over the past few seasons, and he also said there is more to Stoke than hoof ball:

'I think Tony has done fantastic there, a brilliant job. There is not a right or wrong way to play football, it's everybody's prerogative how they play and Stoke, for a number of years, have been terrific in the league. It's going to be a really hard game for us. They have some really good players and it's not just a physical presence. But we are playing well enough ourselves to win.'

I think everybody is expecting a tough game and the bottom line is we can't afford to play like we did against QPR, we need a return to the type of game we played against the Manchester's if we expect to get anything out of this...and we do need something out of it.

it would be a bit rich to critisize stoke for being direct when our only tactic appears to be to hit it high and long to Benteke.

Agreed AVbandb. But come January, lets hope we aquire a midfield worthy of the title of "midfield".

I believe that Stoke City are a much better footballing side than they are given credit for. We certainly will have to be on top of our game to see off their challenge, and as Mike says in his article, we have to perform considerably better than we did at Loftus Road last weekend. That was a disappointing showing, particularly second half, and we cannot afford to not be firing on all cylinders against the Stokies. Hopefully Paul Lambert will have the lads fully prepared to meet the challenge, and come five o'clock Saturday afternoon we can then be celebrating a second successive home victory. We need the points. Boy do we need the points!
