Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk Round-Up

Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk Round-Up

Grizzly Villa in the forum said: Just heard on the radio that Jozy Altidore may bery well becoming to Villa in January. The American International, 23, has scored 23 goals in 44 appearances for AZ Alkmaar (The Cheese Farmers) in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Talksport have linked Villa, Spurs and Fiorentina to 19-year-old France U21 Nancy defender Massadio Haidara.

Bit homophobic that isn`t it? What? Oh, that is a French team? My bad!

Another report linked us to a cash + Stewart Downing deal for Darren Bent. No thanks, not the way Downing left.

One report has linked Martin Jol`s Fulham with Darren Bent. Move back to London might be just the ticket for Bent to be fair.

Oh and Paul Lambert has said they have had no enquiries for Darren Bent. 'Have there been any enquiries for Bent? No. Has he asked to be put on the transfer list? No. Is there a clause? That's not true. I'm not sure where that came from. I see what happens every day in training. It's not about people not putting in the work. You've got 20-odd guys which are in the same boat with each other. I think the team that I pick will be the team that will try and go and win us a game. It's the way I've always done it and it's the way I will always be."

Just cannot see Downing being welcomed back, not by the board, not by the fans?

Call me a hypocrit or two faced lol but i would wlcome the little erm nice fella back tbh we need some experiance and he could do alright on the left or roght side of Benteke for us to create a bit more than having two strikers like Weeman and Gabby who imo aint wingers and create nothing for Bentekrs wheras Downing would, yes i have called him all the things under the sun but Villa is all i care about here so anything that helps our team and create more chances from open play im all for,,,Look at the Reading game how many clear cut chances did we create against such a poor team wheras the week before Wigan created shed loads against the same team, we lack creativeaty.

Downing!!??!! Over rated & well over priced (thanks for the 20 mill LFC). Oh yeah and he's a lying, money grabbing, glory hunting piece of *****! I will NEVER welcome him back. EVER!!!

Adam i respect your opinion mate but desperate times call for desperate measeure, we lack experiance and creative players, we are currently playing two strikers as wingers to supply Bentekers and our midfielders and it aint working like i said i put Villa before everything aprt from my kids in life thats my take on things tbh

I am the only one who thinks that gabby and weiman are actually better options on the WING than downing. Didnt even rate him when he was 'in form' here. I was happy to take the 20mil and run. He is not aggressive enought to be a winger and not consistent enough for the midfield. He switches off during games and pulls out of tackles. No thank you. I do think we need a left sided midfielder though. Just please not downing

overlooked i agree on most you say mate he did pull out of challangesbut he did also create and score a few for us, Weeman and Gabby just aint wingers or wide front men they are both strikers so we lose the service for Bentekers when they are in a position to cross from out wide thats all i mean, but at this present moment this team is not creating many open play chances thats my worry even against Reading!

I'm a big fan of this new system but its gonna take time and I'm not 100% convinced that Weimann is the player to play there. Think he would be better in a 4-4-2 with Benteke or Bent. However where would that leave Gabby? I like it that we have options with the formation and Bent and Bowery both wanting games. I'd keep Bent until at least the Summer, if Benteke gets injured we need him. My biggest concern in Jan, would be to get rid of of Warnock, Hutton and Nzogbia, i'd be even be happy to see offers for Given, Albrighton, Dunne, Delph, Makoun and the Fonz. It's time for a clear our. Get as much money that we can for above 9 players and build for the future by buying another young keeper or give Siegrist a place on the bench, another experienced defender to replace Dunne, Somebody in midfield with the skill of Joey Barton but not the temperament and maybe a experienced winger, I like Lallana at Southampton or maybe a cheeky bid for Walcott. I can't see the point in having a team full of players who either don't fit the system we play or are taking the big wages and have only a bit part to play. Lets remember we won the Old Div One with 13 players. If Lambert ain't gonna use em - then get rid ASAP.

I think altidore would be a bad move he is big strong and quick but his finishing leaves something to be desired (dont let his goals in Holland fool you)... At Villareal he looked like the real deal for a bit but since then he has been poor... He had great potential but I think he has lost a lot of it... I think all the striker links are rubbish anyway the stories are just an extension of the Bent affair... Im with TVR for Lallana PL was at their WBA game recently I think thats who he was looking at we need creativity not strikers...

Bent's on the bench today! Will this reduce the amounts of rumours flying about?
