Gabby Agbonlahor praised Christian Benteke following the game, whilst Barry Bannan talked about a different expectancy level that the team had to deal with in the game.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail following tonight's 1-0 win, Gabby Agbonlahor firstly praised our matchwinner:
'You can tell by the fans' reaction how much they've taken to him. He's still only 21 but he's doing great for us. He's helped with the goal tonight and all credit to him.'
Barry Bannan however talked about the team having to approach the game in a different manner to have we have our former three:
'There's less expectation against the big clubs and it was hard to come out tonight and win the game, but we dug in and got the three points. It's massive, we need to win and it's a big relief for us. We're got a great team spirit here, we're all young lads and we're learning every day.'
It's a fair point by Bannan, nobody expected anything from our last three games really so the lads can express themselves more, we didn't really do that until midway through the second half tonight but the pressure was on to get the points, but when we did - I at least - thought that we could consider ourselves hugely unlucky to not have taken all three points as we were the only side who looked like winning it - and even then we have performed better this season, so positives can be taken.
If we put that effort in and take confidence when it comes to finishing our chances, we'll be fine in my mind. The effort and determination to dig in will carry us a long way, and I defy anyone not to have seen the improvements we have made in our style of play, attacking intent and desire to work hard in the game.
I actually enjoyed that, end to end and it was there for the taking and we did.
