Villa Transfer Talk Centres Around Darren Bent

The Metro says that Liverpool are negotiating with Villa for a loan move for 28-year-old striker Darren Bent.

This, according to the report, is with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Rodgers has already said he might not have the funds to buy players in January so obviously a loan would suit the Anfield boss.

"If we can get in the quality in the final third we need to support what we have, then there will be enough to keep the team moving forward. But I am not so sure that will happen in January. This year the club wanted to balance the books and see where we are at. There has been big investment in the club and lots of players went out and a few came in during the summer, so we will look to do some business.`

John Percy at The Telegraph says that Bent will know if he has a future at Villa or not tonight when he finds out if he has been excluded from the squad again or not.

They also repeat the Bent to Fulham or Queens Park Rangers links.

Suicide to get rid of Bent. And why subsidise the scousescum with a loan?
I can see both sides. If he goes on loan we strengthen Liverpool, but he gets a chance to shine, increase his value while Liverpool pick up his wages. If we sell him in Jan I reckon we'll get 10-12m. If he bangs in the goals for half a season at LFC he could fetch nearer the 20m mark.
If only we'd signed him when we signed Heskey.........! (instead of I mean, not as well as - obvs).

The transformation is nearly complete - with the sale of Bent and Ireland shortly afterwards we will have been transformed into a league 1 kick and run outfit. I disliked Mcleish so much I never actually thought it was possible or anyone to do worse.....
Please tell me you're joking? We are 1 million times more fluid than last season
I couldn't disagree more AVbornandbred. We're playing football I want to watch for the first time on years. And when it goes wrong, as it will with a team that's being built from youngsters, they look eager and give their all. Compared with the likes of Carew and Downing, these lads are worth paying to watch. And really, you can't be serious comparing McLeish with Lambert. UTV.
Absolute madness. We had been crying out for somebody to put the ball in the back of the net for years.
I think AVBB is focusing on the balls to Benteke as a sign of us becoming akin to stoke or west ham without the defensive strength... The thing is tho our game is more diverse now... With Lambert I see it as playing the best pass when its presented... In general managers tend to set up a team passed on how they played and as a kid growing up in Ireland Celtic were a team I followed and Lambert wasnt the kind to give possession cheaply so his game is based around possession and playing direct when there is a good opportunity... We cant play tippy tappy (no I dont mean tikki takki) football because we dont have that creative force in MF to carve open a team... I think thats what will come in January an advanced playmaker and hopefully an oldschool winger... Back on point I still dont think Lambert plans to be rid of him unless a great offer comes in or Bent hands in a request... Im more interested in selling the *****bags anyway Dunne, Warnock, Hutton for starters...
If Vlaar's still injured tonight, Dunne might not seem such a bad option. It's one thing to ship all these players out but Bent, Ireland and N'Zog could all be brilliant with the right management/coaching. Our few quality players look destined to leave soon - and most people on here seem to welcome it. Hope to Christ you all know as much about football as you seem to think - same applies to Lambo.
I don't know anything about football, onlyteam. I know what I like. And having been down to the old 3rd div with the Villa and seen some fantastic football on the way back up, I prefer Lambert to McLeish any day. I may be the only one who thinks winning isn't the most important thing. It's how we play that's most important to me - that's why I don't like win-at-any-cost teams at either end of the scale - 11-behind-the-ball draw teams to teams full of thugs or divers.
Fair enough 144, and I also suffered many years outside the top division - which is exactly why I don't want to go back. Much prefer this year's football to last year's - what I'm less keen on is the results. Lambo doesn't seem keen on 'star' players, hence I'm a bit worried that what we pick up in january won't necessarily be the saviours people on here seem to expect. Based on what he's bought so far, they'll almost certainly be great kids with lots of potential, but whether they can adapt in time to turn this season around, we'll have to wait and see. We need a top, top midfielder, a young Roy Keane. Not many of them about and I'm not sure Lambo would want to manage somebody like that, even in the unlikely event that they wanted to come here.
Selling Bent & Ireland would only confirm the Obvious that were a club destined to be fighting in the bottom half of the league for many seasons to come , while we might unearth a odd gem out of our academy once every few years he will be sold on immediately so we can buy more lower league players to help sustain our place in the bottom half of the league !! Ireland is probably our most creative midfielder along with Bent being our most prolific striker in the 16 yard box !!
I'll stick with Lambert and see where we are at the end of NEXT season. A young Keane? Sorry to say I'm not an admirer. He was a thug and admitted in his autobiography he injured players on purpose. Pathetic divot.
We need Bent. I dont have a problem with Lambert starting with Benteke and Gabby- they have done ok so far. The fact that DB9 isnt on the bench when fit is frankly ludicrous. We have a sstronger squad with Bent than we will without him and it's about time we bought players to add to the quality rather than replace it!
king villa
Patheitc divot = Keane, not you onlyteam ;-)
Thanks 144, and been called worse. Interesting how the DB9 issue splits opinion. I detest Roy Keane - not that I know him, but from what we see on TV and what was in his book. Would have him in my starting line up tonight though, if he was 15 years younger.
I have zero interest in selling our best players however Im all for selling them if a younger equivalent is brought in but Id rather keep them and have a quality squad i.e. 11 + 7 subs the rest should be future stars... The minimium in January is twp proven players and one with Benteke potential and one of those guys should be capable of taking corners and fks
Bent only works if we can get the supply line firing. If Ireland and Zoggy started supplying the front man then Bent would start shining again. At the moment we need every single forward player contributing to the build up and Bentekes ability in the air is invaluable when we dont have the players like Young, Milner, Downing to feed a poacher. We cant afford to remove Benteke from the team unless other players are stepping up and creating chances. So Bent stays on the bench. Options 1) Sell bent 2) Change the way we play to focus on feeding an out and out front man.
Bent is an out & out striker; this position is not part of the PL plan
Right PL is'nt the type of manager to drop bent without reason. He's probably been stropping since losing the arm band, not doing a shift in training etc?? Can anyone say there's not a reason for so many clubs in so few years??? Yes he scores goals but not the way we play... so ship him out & save 70 grand a week. UTV
He is definitely not out of favour, more lazy journalism. It makes sense to bring him back from injury slowly. I fully expect him to be on the bench tonight and make an appearance later on in the game. I can see your point mattyh but I cant say I agree. Villa are no longer a one dimensional team and we should have alternate approaches. Bent is a different option to Bentekers (love the nickname). Bent, Ireland and hopefully a winger added in Jan will change our play and give us two very different but quite exciting styles. I really hope we keep bent as he is still our biggest asset.
I'd like to hold onto him but if/when we're heading for the championship at the end of the season we'll be forced to sell him on the cheap. If we're not gonna bother playing him anyway then sell him off so we can get Randy his money back and hopefully find someone interested in the club
Holte End Hero
Onlyteam, just a quick qustion..... If you detest Keane so much then why did you read his book? ;)
Id also like to add that I really cant understand why people are even dicussing getting rid of Bent. Its a complete nonsense, hes the best finisher of a ball that we have in our squad. Yes Weimann is also a top finisher but to get rid of Bent would be utter madness. Especially half way through a struggling season. UTV
There's more to football than the final touch from 6 yards and Bent cannot do anything else. He is worthless against a decent defence.
Gibbo - as Mr Miyagi probably said, to defeat your enemy, you must know your enemy. Tend to enjoy footballers' autobiographies, although I didn't read Keano's, just the serialisaton in a well known daily rag.
I can't understand if this is true, why Liverpool want Bent! They just got shut of Carroll who is the same sort of player. Seems mad to me
Can we please get out of this ''lets get rid of so and so and save us 70k week'' stuff, we have cut more than enough over the last three yearsthank you very much, we have an in-experianced squad of players with our most prolific and reliable goalscorer looking like being sold, or even loaned out this imo is crazy, we have a relegation battle ahead a tough christmas schedule we need golads Benteker'z is great but he is adjusting to premiershiplife whilst we are battling for our premiership status Gabby is not a reliable goalscorer Weeman neither cmon lads get with it, don't you think we have lost enough of our better players over the years there is one thing to have a team but another to not have any quality and experiance, i must be seeing things wrong as many of you are happy :0
I would definately keep DB as selling him will only mean we will need to replace him. A creative midfielder and a centre back are what we need.
Liverpool wanted Downing, kefkat. Need I say more?
Bent does split opinion but at the end of the day its got to be left to Lambert to decide. Got to agree with CDX_EIRE Bannan,Ireland,Nzobia will never do it for me.
