Bent's Time Up At Villa?

Bent's Time Up At Villa?

John Cross has an article in The Mirror today.

It seems that Darren Bent was fit for the Arsenal game and wasn`t best pleased to be told he wasn`t in the squad.

Now it is up to the manager (any manager) who they choose but was Jordan Bowery (ten goals in 83 games for '4th division` team Chesterfield) really a better option than our top scorer and England striker Darren Bent to have on the bench in case the team needed an injection of goals?

I must admit I assumed, and said in the forum, that Bent wasn`t fully fit and so wasn`t in contention. Seems from Paul Lambert`s quotes, he was fit.

The report says Bent was furious not to have at least made the bench and that this will signal the end of his Villa career. Whether that is true or not, I know not.

Lambert when asked said the decision was his, "I`m the man that picks the team. Listen, it`s my choice and I`ve 26, 27 lads that I have to look after. Everybody`s in it together and I need everybody in it together. I know the disappointment when you don`t play, I know I was dropped about five million times, but that`s the nature of the game. If you could pick everybody you would. Darren`s still part of it but I've got 25, 26 guys to take care and think of."

Strange.

So, I wonder who will come in for Bent in January, he`s too good to sit on a bench or even in the stands, that is for sure.

He's been linked to Liverpool again today and, no surprise here, also to Harry Redknapp's QPR.

We surely CANNOT sell to teams who are in the relegation/bottom three scrap with us?

This is crazy, the more i see of this Bent omision from the squad the more i start to think about the rumours that we owe Sunderland £6million and if he plays another x amount of games we will have to pay it, maybe i dunno its a rumour but to not even have Bent on the bench is nuts i just can not believe Lambert rates Bowery more than Bent???

That he is for the exit seems without question - the issue about the games played is interesting for anyone who listened to that John Gregory radio interview that was linked here a while back. Plus I have seen that if he puts in a transfer request we dont have to pay off the wages on the rest of his contract (whether at 100pc or pence on the pound dont know). I would imagine miost contracts have that type of clause because putting in a request is often tantamount to going on strike (handbags, pram clearance etc). Had to be down to money - who around this club knows the price of everything and the value of nothing ?

Seems strange, always the managers choice and maybe he wants him out to give him some funds. Looks a mistake to me but hey, what do I know, I just like strikers who actually score, I'm fussy like that.

Real odd one this and it concerns me as it will only push his value down. I fully back PL to pick the team and think Benteke offers more in terms of all round game, but if Bent doesn't even make our squad our bargaining power is seriously reduced.

Cowans interview in which he slates Bencht for not being a team player and points at this being a reason that he's left out. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/121125/exclusive-%E2%80%93-gordon-cowans-paul-lambert-taking-aston-villa-right-directio-1861

The most overrated, overpriced player that we have ever had on the books. And I include Mister Balaban in that list. Why on earth will he play against Reading Milan, unless the WHOLE team is going to change their ethos, formation and style just to accomodate him?????? The scousers are doing better now without Carrol and we are (and will continue to ) without Bencht.

Bent is one of english football's most prolific marksmen. When he leaves in January he will go on to score a boat load for whoever signs him (most likely QPR where his goals will keep them up and send us down).

as for comparing Bent (whose goals kept us up under GH) to Balaban (who couldn't hit a cows rear end with the proverbial banjo) ............ AstonMilan I wish you were right but I suspect that we won't see Bent in a villa shirt again, I'll wait and see on Ireland as his face doesn't seem to fit either. Pundit, honest question what is in your opinion that Bentecke offers in terms of all round game?
