Villa Snare Swedish Talent

Aston Villa have stolen a march on our rivals and snapped up Swedish star Khalid Abdo.

The 16 year old had been receiving numerous interest from the likes of Fulham, Hamburg and others, but when he knew of Villa's interest, he only had one destination in mind:

'Back in September I found out that Villa wanted to recruit me. I'm happy, it feels good.'

Abdo explains he'll be starting with the U18 team but he has his eyes set on a few reserve outings as soon as he can, as he feels he'll have no problem adapting to the pace of our U21 set up.

He even gives himself a year to achieve it, so motivation and confidence aren't an issue!

'Aston Villa often graduate players for the first team. Their Academy is the best of those, I feel I can best develop here.'

Unfortunately, he also added:

'The goal is to step up to the first team and then maybe move on to a bigger club.'

I suppose the 'maybe' makes it sounds better in some ways...

Not the way you endear yourself to a new club... "You'll do for now until something better comes along". Great. Don't stub your toe on the way out the door.

Maybe move on to a bigger club? I don't like him already. But at least he has confidence in his ability I suppose...

By the time he's in the first team (if hes as good as he thinks he is 2 or 3 years) there wont be any bigger teams in the world. Mwahahahahahaha

Oh dear - if he was in a skirt he'd be a WAG. We ve bought him BMV as it were. Put the investment in timewise and then sell the *****er on for big bucks. Next.

Doesn't bother me in the least. Should he realize those aspirations and move to some bigger club we stand to make a considerable profit off of him. Should we be challenging for higher honors then we currently are when he were to join the first team he'll change his tune then. Time will sort him out either way

Let's hope this is more from our improved scouting network. I'd be happy we signed all the best young kids in the world, even if they do move on to Barcelona or Real Madrid in the years to come. We have to get to the top before we'll ever be able to keep the very best. I know which end of the league I'd prefer to be, even if it means been a temporary destination for some.

NO NO NO young man. Villa IS a big club. As one of the Vital Villa facebookers said, that does not reflect the player in a good light at all (well, he worded it a bit differently to be fair!)

Although I don't like him saying things like that we do have to be realistic about it and if he reaches his potential, then its more than likely he will move to a bigger club. Still, should have kept his thought's to himself :P

I don't think he'll ever be a career diplomat, but as he's only 16, let's give him a chance. Once he gets to know our club, he'll learn about the rich history, and the importance of Villa to thousands of supporters around the world. And let's be honest, he probably has a 1 in 100 chance of making the grade!

pmsl Is he related to Gareth Barry, can't blame the lad Villa have slipped in recent years to a club where we can be seen as a stepping stone to bigger things.

Most of these starlets end up falling way short of their dreams and our ambitions anyway. So he'll either blossom and move on in which case we make a profit, or he'll find his level and drift down the divisions and off the wage bill. He'll have time to grow up and regret those words.

End of the day, players are staff, not fans. We can't move clubs (sometimes sadly!!! LOL) but they can. As long as they do it the right way, I've never had a problem with that. I can't understand why the likes of Barry get so much abuse, I can understand why the likes of Downing get so much abuse. If they come and stun, they then get sold on for loads of dosh, that is re-invested and we've profited whilst they are on the pitch and as they leave, then no problem at all really is it? That is how most clubs have to operate now, we don't all have the obscene Man City/Chelsea money (and that should be stopped, it has/is ruining the game)

Well, at least he's honest. None of this badge kissing nonsense from him. "My Granddad loved the Villa. It' always been my dream to play for them." Still, what a cheeky little fecker. Lets hope he gets a month toilet cleaning duty and a clip round the lug hole for that one.

Don't have a problem at all with what he said - let's face it, he's from Sweden not Aston so he's not a fan & there are bigger clubs out there - we are a good move for his development and it's good to see he's ambitious. Agree with Villa_Grizzly really - it's better than a patronizing "All my life I dreamed of donning the Scarlet and Blue, playing at Lions Park and following in the footsteps of legends such as Rory McGrath"

What I dont get, is that he said " he only had one destination when he realised Villa were after him" then he said "Im off to a bigger club when Im the full monty" He must know we are a big club to want to join us in the first place???? Stupid little twerp.

I totally agree with Fears assesment. Happy with Barry, he served us well. Downing deserves to have ruined his career like he has at Liverpool so alls well that ends well there. I have no issue with what this lad has said. Lets hope he is the next big thing fires us in to the Champions League and buggers off to Real Madrid for 80m. Realistically we all know villa are probably between 20th & 30th biggest club in Europe so why be surprised if he goes to one of the top 10... If however he left for Liverpool who were not in Europe then slap him in the face with a wet fish on the way out!!

So he voiced (if translated correctly) what the vast majority are thinking when they sign, I don't see the problem, earn your move to a "bigger" club chap, bring in the millions after you have served Villa well enough to catch the attention of Man U, good luck to you, now get your head down, and put up or shut up.

Downing made us a packet and has made Liverpool feel like they've had their fingers burnt so now can't afford and or won't invest in the likes of Dempsey. Keep up the good work agent " I'm too scared to tackle and only cross well 1 in 4" downing!!! Barry is way too slow for the citizens. Amazed he's still getting a game.

I can't see the problem with what he said. Surely we're not naive enough to think we're the biggest club in the world! He's just showing he's ambitious - he wants to play his best and play for the best. Nothing wrong with that is there?
