U21's - Villa Hold On For Maximum Points

In tonight's U21 clash against Sunderland, Villa held on to take all 3 points with a mixed 2-1 performance.

Villa took an early two goal lead, before Sunderland pulled one back shortly before half time. I'd have said for the first 30 minutes Villa were clearly on top and could well have won by a bigger margin, although Villan57 blames himself for watching the second half which he called Sunderland to be on top with Craig Hill taking a Man of the Match performance to keep us in it with a string of very fine saves.

Villa:

Hill, Barton, Williams (Bateman 69), Stieber, Devine (Lyden 83), Donacien, Albrighton, Carruthers, Drennan, Burke, Graham.

Subs:

Barrett, Melvin, Ward.

Goals - Albrighton (8), Burke (13)

Sunderland:

Wilson, Marrs, Adams, Reed, Oliver, Ferguson, Mitchell, Gorrin, Laidler, Deacon (Mandron 54), Lynch.

Subs:

Joyce, Dixon, Armstrong, Harrison.

Goals - Gorrin (45)

Villa move into third place in the U21 league following the victory.

Really good game. For half an hour Villa were brilliant. Two up and could have been a lot more. Great flowing football. Sunderland came back really well after that and Villa were indebted to a superb performance from our keeper, Craig Hill, to hang on for a win. Had a night off from the pub and watched the game on AVTV. Excellent viewing.
