Clark & Bannan Take The Plaudits

Garth Crooks (never thought I'd be writing his name on here) has selected Ciaran Clark and Barry Bannan in his BBC Team of the Week following their performances against Sunderland.

He even had a nice barb against Gobby Savage...

Crook's Team of the Week was made up of:

Ruddy, Whittacker, Cahill, Clark, Evra, Fellaini, Bannan, Noble, Van Persie, Odemwingie.

'I had to look twice to work out exactly which player made a crucial tackle on Sunderland's Sessegnon inside the 18 yard box during the first half of Villa's match against Sunderland. It was Ciaran Clark and, in doing so, he saved what would have been a certain goal. Villa went on to keep a clean sheet and produced their best performance of the season.'

As for wee Barry, he added:

'Robbie Savage must be quaking in his boots! He has staked his reputation on Villa going down, but looking at them against Sunderland on Saturday even he must recognise that Paul Lambert has got his boys and, in particular, Barry Bannan, playing with spirit and commitment. Even Alan Hansen backtracked from his previous week's onslaught. There might be a few more backtracking about Villa before the season is out.'

That must be a first for the season. They must be doing something right if they get into "Garfs" team ....... Lets hope we can get a few more into his "team" during the season.

We've had one or two others in Garf's teams since the start of the season.

Three academy players including Cahill,. and three out of six "British". But totally irrelevant in the scheme of things. We need to give a good report of ourselves in the rest of this month - even if we get no points from these next three - or the cynics will return.

"He's staked his reputation ..." what reputation? His reputation as a c0ck?

In the words of the mighty Half Man Half Biscuit: "There is surely nothing worse than washing sieves, There is surely nothing worse than washing sieves, With the possible exception, Of being Garth Crooks, There is surely nothing worse than washing sieves."

Crooks is senile.

I was never overly impressed with Barry Bannan, not as he worked his way through the ranks, or in his first team appearances prior to the current campaign. However this season he has definitely shown much improvement, and his recent displays suggest that he could well be close to a Scotland recall. Well played both BB and CC.
