The Fear
This was before my tme i was 2 when we won the euro cup lol but i always wish i wasaround to see these great days in our history, and yes Fear luv the old style badge aswell, Happy Birthday Lord Saunders
Happy Birthday Lord Saunders! Baked in our history forever. Wonderful days
Wasn't appreciated at the time and could have done for us what Bill Shankly did for Liverpool. Shame on Herbert. Thanks Ron for wiping out those 3rd division years of shame and leaving something that can't be taken away. I know it's probably no big deal to you 'cos you were only doing your job. Just hope PL pays attention and does even a quarter as well.
Strictly speaking jbd656 Doug Ellis was not Chairman of Aston Villa when Saunders left Viulla for Blues, Ron Bendal was, however it is a widely held belief by many that he was behind the removal of Saunders by Bendal. Either way its all water under the bridge.
Question. If Brian Little walks on water, what exactly does Sir Ron Saunders do? The Greatest Manager we've ever had! Once again, Happy Birthday Ron.
Pride of Lions
For he's a jolly good fellow....

Surely he created the water for Little PoL?
A great man who shares his birthday with another great - me!!! Though being 30 today I just missed our greatest achievement.
My enduring memory other than the 'I expect 110% every game' in the programme notes is the night we beat Liverpool 5 - 1 and that was the score at half time. They were the top boys in European football at the time, it was cold and misty night under the floodlights in Brum and the atmosphere was electric. But at half time the Holte End just burst into a rendition of 'Saunders, Saunders, Saunders'. It was proper hairs on the back of the neck stuff and will be with me until my dying day. The man is and is likely to stay the most important Manager in my lifetime of supporting our great club. There are legends and there are people who some call legends but in reality they have just have served the club well. Those that I put in the legend status are firstly Saunders, then Paul McGod and Brian Little.
I'm with you Voice.....That night will stay with me for the rest of my life. That simply was the best Villa side ever!..
Happy Birthday Ron, thank for the memories!
Stourbridge Villan
Thanks Ron - apart from birth of my kids and a certain day in Rotterdam, gave me the best days of my life!
VOTH. What a night that was! Dec (77 I think). I had got home on leave that day and my old dad had got us tickets for the game. As you said it was 5-1 at half time and I missed Kennedy's goal for them coz I was getting dad a cup of bovril at the time lol.
Dont think any of us who were at that match will ever forget it Voice Little,Gray,Gidman etc all our best youngsters we ever produced putting 5 past the England goalkeeper Ray Clements in 45 minutes of the best football I have ever seen from a Villa side in 55 years supporting them . Unbelievable to think Saunders then broke up that side to form his league & european cup team. No cameras that night either. Happy birthday Sir Ron
Some of you are showing your age you old gits. I am only 18 and experienced the 5 -1 Liverpool thrashing in a previuous life.
I must be getting old. Probably the most important manager we have had in the the last 100 years and there are just 16 comments on this article. However if we put up an article about changing the font in the letters AVFC or were considering a new badge, or the size of Albrightons nose then there would be hundreds of responses. Makes me a little sad actually. Too many fans worry about the here and now and the next result or slagging off players they don't like, but actually have no sense of history, respect and tradition of our great club. I raise my glass to Ron, and the older Villa fans who really understand what our club is all about.
lol Voice my first game was the 1957 F.A.cup final aged 5 my father had promised if we got to wembley he would take me. Little did I know I was witnessing history as we won the cup for a then record 7th time ,but your right Ron Saunders deserves all the praise that could be heaped on any manager of AVFC. I hope future generations get to see anything like the success I have been fortunate to witness with Aston Villa.
