Lambert Delighted With Sunderland Display

Paul Lambert was full of praise and pride following our display at the Stadium of Light earlier today, describing it as a massive victory for the lads.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Lambert described today's display as the best overall performance he's seen the lads put in since he arrived:

'That was great, I thought the lads were absolutely fantastic. I think they deserve a lot of credit after the knocks they've taken, I am delighted for them. There were some massive performances in there, Ashley was absolutely outstanding. Christian was unplayable at times, Gabby is right on the top of his game...I am proud of them, as a whole it was our best performance. We deserved to win the game.'

Hard to disagree really from what I saw. We were tighter in defence, especially as a unit, and we went forward as a unit as well, some great passing, some great openings.

This should certainly be our benchmark for a performance from here on in, and we just need the consistency to carry through now in the league because youngster and inexperienced or not, we have again shown we can compete at this level, we just need to believe it and go for it.

Yes, well done lads, a good unexpected three points. I wouldn't get too carried away though myself because competing at THIS level is one thing, competing with Manure, Chelski, Citeh etc level is another thing completely.

Think we have all had a reality check this season following on from high expectations during the summer. I will take 3 points no matter how/ who they come from, but particularly nice to achieve it playing good football

Well done indeed guys, any win away from home in the prem is a great result, and keeping a clean sheet, saying that Sunderland couldn't hit a cows arse with banjo at the moment.

someone reminded us all on the match stats thread that we had three sixth finishes with O Neill - I wonder where we could have finished had he played Guzan instead of Friedel in the last two seasons. For me the player of this season so far, hands down.

Tend to agree with you on that malacaxeta...
