Gabby Agbonlahor praises Christian Benteke, Paul Lambert praises Gabby, Gabby praises himself and Lambert praises Chris...all that's missing is somebody praising me!
I'll open with Gabby Agbonlahor talking about his role as our longest serving playing on the Official Site:
'It's not like I'm a young lad anymore. I enjoy the responsibility and I've got to dig deep when things aren't going right for the whole team. When things aren't going well, it's important the experienced lads don't crumble.'
Spot on and against Swindon that's what happened, but sadly we haven't seen enough of that type of leadership often enough in the league.
Next we have Gabby praising Christian Benteke, saying he gives us an option we haven't had since John Carew moved on:
'Christian gives us a different option. He can hold the ball up similar to when John Carew was here. He can win a lot of aerial balls and he can finish as he showed against Swindon. He's only 21 and can get better and better.'
Finally the gaffer talks about the impact Gabby has had recently, describing him as 'excellent':
'I think Gabby has been excellent in the last few weeks, he's been in exciting form. His workrate is phenomenal and the way he is playing at the moment is excellent. There's a lot more to Gabby's game than just goals. His goal against Swindon, it was top drawer.'
Gabby's cup form has certainly been much improved and against City and Swindon, that is what we expect from him, sadly though that hasn't been replicated in his league form, but the confidence of the goal hopefully will give him that lift and we'll see the player we know he can be more often.
Finally, Lambert talked about Benteke:
'I think he will get better and better, his two goals were excellent. He has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He might not score every time but he actually puts himself in positions.'
If he does keep getting in the positions, he'll find the net more often than not, we just need that to click in league games quicker to take the pressure off us.
