Lambert On Benteke's Mixed Bag

Delighted with the brace, disappointed in the performance..Paul Lambert expects more from Christian...

After the game in comments made to Sky Sports, Paul Lambert admitted he wasn't chuffed with Christian Benteke's performance tonight, but he was delighted with his finishing.

Tonight was the change, because previously Benteke's performances have been fine, it was the finishing that was missing.

With the confidence boost his brace tonight will have given him, hopefully against Sunderland we'll see the best of both?

'Benteke has had a quality start but his game wasn't up to my standards. His two goals were world class finishes but you set yourself a standard and we've got to keep him up to that standard. Why did he fall short? I don't know. But he's been brilliant since he came here and I think he will get better.'

Was Lambert really disappointed with his overall game, or is this a public 'don't get carried away when you should've had a hattrick' speech?

Benteke scores 2 goals and he's moaning about his performance? What about the rest of 'em? 33% possession? What an embarassment.........

PoL put the onions back in the bag mate lol Step away from the sugary sweets! Sky have possession at 47% apparently. We got the job done, no embarrassment there especially given Swindon's form and the teams they have already knocked out.

World class v Swindon?! Must admit, Benteke was one of only a few who can really hold their heads high on that performance, but at the end of the day, a win is a win in the Cup rounds and at least the late capitulation then late goal gave us some excitement down there, it was rather cold !

Wigan out to Bradford, Southampton ruined by Leeds, come on villans - cup ties are often tricky affairs, especially away from home (remember, Swindon had already knocked out 2 champ sides and Stoke). It wasn't a pretty performance, especially the second half, but job done. Onwards and upwards.

Had we been on form, it'd still have been a tricky tie, away against an inform lower league team. We did well to get the result, but by all accounts the performance was poor and I can't see us turning any corners soon.

See Mr. Field I told you you were wrong ;) although you were right about other bits Swindon did have periods of good possession... From what Iv read the Goal report was strange it said on the whole we were comfortable and Swindon looked out of their depth at times but did have plenty of dangerous crosses and it was only in the last 15mins that they started connecting with them... But as one of our pals here said in some ways it shouldn matter we got the result and we moving forward... I mean if we get win the cup playing like this I wont care... Im still a believer we will get a result against Sunderland...

Managed to get down to Swindon last night. All be it in the swindon end. I was very close to all the action and was impressed with Ireland and some of his clever touches. Thought he did a simple but effective job at times. Swindon are no easy push overs and play some really nice stuff. What was all that about at the end of the Game from Di Canio ? ....Playing to the crowd I know !. But Not appropriate. UTV

Think the lambert comments are managing expectations re Benteke.... also we know that lambert doesnt seem to like it when players think they have "arrived" and get all "Billy Big bollox".... sensible enough... oh and we won and are in the next round. Seems like negativity is endemic !
