Bent To Respect Lambert's Decisions

Bent To Respect Lambert's Decisions

I'll let the quotes speak for themselves here given all the sensationalisation that goes on whenever you mention Darren Bent thesedays.

Quotes from Sky Sports:

On his current form:

'Sometimes you'll run right and the ball will run left, it's just one of those things. I'm sure that once we start creating chances then I'll start finishing them.'

On his love of a rotation system:

(Does he like it?)

'Not really. Obviously any player who values himself wants to play week in, week out. When you start playing rotation systems it's difficult to find a rhythm as such, especially when you're a front man, but it's the manager's decision and we live by that and you have to keep working hard in training and showing him that you want to play.'

Honest, not disrespectful, not as bad as the headlines probably suggest - nothing wrong with that is there? Do we expect any player, especially not on top form, to be happy at not playing?

Or do we hanker for the days where people are happy with players sitting on the bench and smiling with their wages?

Its nice not to hear Bent is crap every five mins thats for sure on her, but getting back to Bent he has said where our real problems lye, creating chances, we just do not have the quality to carve out chances for our forwards to feed on, thats why we dramatise Benteke missing a chance or two cos we only create this many decent ones if we are lucky in a game, Investment is needed thats for sure January will be interesting on our tambitions wether we add quality or not will tell me verything i need to know!

Agree Clive. Also, if it's a rotation system.... Gabby will be dropped soon.... Three cheers!!!

Very true Clive Im sure Lambert will be thinking the same... I think our lack of creativity is partly down to a new team trying to play a new way and PL still trying to find the best 11 and correct balance... However even when the team finds its rhythm I think it will be essential we add genuine and proven talent to our MF... A LW is key and an attacking CM or AM would also be welcome...

Some of the problem is that Bent CANNOT create anything himself FFS. We don't create loads even when he's not playing but we create less when he is as we've only got 9 outfield players and 1 goalhanging. RE: rotation, respect Lambert's Authoritaaah Bent!!!!
22/10/2012 17:45:00
Vill444 a striker shouldnot have t create chances for himself isnt that what a midfield is for or arethey defenders? Anyway Bent has scored goals he created before now but his best attribute is being given the ball in the box but we do not have the quality in midfield to do this only pass sideways and backwards far too much,
22/10/2012 19:37:00
CLIVE, seriously mate!! "his best attribute"!!!!! His only attribute you mean. A striker should be able to create chances for his strike partner as well as hold up for oncoming midfielders especially if he's playing on his own (which is what he obviously wants.) Name me a couple of goals that Bent has created for himself OR anyone else for that matter. I DO NOT deny the fact that he's a good finisher within 12 yards, but everyone knows that and he's so easy to play against especially seeing that he doesn't have a trick to beat or fool a defender. Can't dribble, isn't amazingly fast, strong, good in the air. Complete waste of time in OUR team. He's a luxury that we can't afford with his singular attribute.
22/10/2012 20:05:00
I'm glad that your in-depth analysis of Bent has led to your conclusion - the top scorer for the last 2 years (and currently leading in the goals tally) is a luxury we can't afford. This player who can't fool a defender or have a "trick" has outscored Gabby by more than 100% in the two years he has been here. And has almost as many assists. Hmmmm. Oh btw he also has played 40% less games than Gabby these last 2 years. Soo.... What makes Gabby better than Bent? What STATISTIC, not what Villan444 with his expert opinion believes, backs up the fact that Gabby is better than Bent? Now can you justify that Benteke, Weimann etc. are better than Bent? How???? These could be great players or complete flops... We don't know yet. With experience and time they could be great. Right now Benteke's misses highlight how he is not yet the finished product. As someone else pointed out a couple of posts ago - you want a hard working, goal scoring striker with dozens of assists, buy Ronaldo and Messi. You can't have it all on OUR budget. You need to realise that your actions have an effect. Obviously there is tension at the club regarding Bent at the moment. There is never smoke without fire. Having negative reactions from the fans will further destabilise the relationship between Bent and Villa. Losing him in December will kill our chances of staying up - I will happily justify that to you if needed. We need to get behind the team and ALL of its players right now - this will be a tough year for us and we need to stay up. We now have a manager with massive potential that has the approach to turn this club around. All this will be lost if we end up in the Championship next season.
22/10/2012 21:14:00
LOL, Astriel, you're looking at stats, and you're making them up also. They can be made to prove anything as we all know. Please give me examples of Bent's assists. Please, I'm serious, you can't, because they don't exist. If you put R. Dunne as a goalhanger he'd score more goals than the others that you mentioned. I never said that Gabby is better at finishing within 12 yards than Bent. He's better at everything else though. What is the ******** poiint of having someone who is V good at 1 ******** skill if it never gets used and the only way to use it is to base every player around getting the ball to them in that area regardless of everyone elses qualities. Look at the bigger picture. If you were managing a team against us, you'd put 1 man, manmarking Bent and he'd be useless. He hasn't got anything other than 12 yards. take that away and he's a liability let alone a passenger. Benteke isn't the finished product but he's already got more talent than Bent. He also gets starts for Belgium who are better than England at the moment, a team that Bent is nowhere near, and he's scored more goals than Bent for them already at the tender age of 21. if you were sensible and looking towards the future, you'd play Benteke and forget about Bent. Bent is yesterday's news.

**Shake head** Not this again the old Bent debate Villan444 against the world well 95% of the members on this website... I dont need to back Bent because there is no argument he is a goalscorer and like it or not will be vital because he is the only proven striker we have... The argument for or against Bent/Benteke is pretty silly to completely ignore what both players bring to the table is stupid... Ignoring Bents credentials is plain stupid while slating Benteke as Heskey is down right retarded the same goes for an inform Gabby... My opinion is play Bent and Benteke in a straight up 442 at least for home games or the likes of Wigan (no disrespect)... Like I said I wont argue for Bents inclusion because I dont need to... Benteke will be an excellent player in time he hasnt adjusted to life in the EPL yet... He is still raw and desperate to impress... Belgian football is a different animal to English football its much slower he thinks he has more time on the ball hence why he gets caught in possession... He gets in the right positions and in time he will put those away if we created more than 1 or 2 chances per game his ability would not be questioned... As for Gabby I dont believe he is good enough to be a CF unless he can produce his best more than twice a season... When at his best he is a beast but other than that he offers little more than Bent sure he is better at dribbling and quicker but it ends there... Iv watched every game Weimann has played in the EPL last two seasons but he still hasnt played enough to really critic his performances... Its hard to say how he will turn out... Anyway Id just go for Bent/Benteke up top they offer the most fire power... Gabby's ability was found out under Houllier and Bent was found out under Eck.. However despite Bents one dimensional nature he still managed to do what he does best... Both Benteke and Bent will be key players in the next two years discarding one for the other is nonsense we will need both and Im sure Weimann and Gabby will both be needed too...
23/10/2012 00:49:00
Well there is one point in there you can't argue with! Benteke has scored more goals for Belgium than Bent has!
