Country Miles To Go In The League For Lambert

Paul Lambert has said he is remaining relaxed about the season because there are still 'country miles' to go in it.

Speaking to the Official Site as the fans' frustration bubbles following the Fulham result, Lambert said he was staying relaxed and was just focused on training and preparing for the next game as we search for more wins:

'We've got to push on. There's no time to mope. If you start feeling sorry for yourself then you get problems. Some of the football we are playing a the moment is pleasing, it's not like we're struggling all over the park. Oh for heaven's sake, there are country miles to go, but we do need to start turning these performances into wins. I'm not overly concerned, I don't think it will be long before we turn performances into results, I really don't.'

Lambert also talks about the team being mentally strong enough to bounce back and click properly so we can have a winning run, as he still believes it's how you cope with disappointment that makes a team, do you let your head drop, or do you redouble your efforts and energy?

He's banking on the latter.

He also said ahead of Norwich that there are still doubts over Ciaran Clark and he's yet to be informed on how badly injured Nathan Baker is:

'I don't know how bad it is with Nathan. We'll have to wait and see. He did ever so well in the game. Ciaran hurt his knee so we'll have to wait and see as well. I don't know yet if they will be able to be involved next weekend, but we've got a full week to see how they are.'

Its a matter of time no team fully adapts to a new style with a lot of new players in less than a third of the season...

Yes, especially when they are of dubious quality. Country miles to go, yes, but we're still on the flat.... we start going uphill in November.... or should that be downhill?.....

Not only do we always get ***** refs we are also really unlucky with injuries. I think we must of used 500 years worth of luck in just two years between 1980 and 1982. By the way, is anyone else feeling suicidal on Saturday nights?

Heres the thing - you only need to lose 1-0 to not get any points. The fact that we're not getting our asses handed to us every game does not help very much. To be brutal about it - we have 30 games left. We have to win 8 or 9 and draw 8 or 9 to be even near to safe. Twelve of those games are scum/citeh/chelski/scouse/arse'n'al/spuds+bluescouse (1 ea) - for the most part games we have struggled to gain anything from for the last ten years. And, it should be said also - games we have previously never needed points from to stay up. That leaves the 18 games we have to get something out of. The way things are going - we will need to get points from the other twelve games - thats the scary part.

Yeh quite worried. Still backing us to stay up. Really do think we have quality but we desperately need a couple games to go our way. Going to have no fingernails left by the end of the season, that's for sure.
overlooked_villan
Don't worry about your nails overlooked, we'll see if Lerner can manage to get you a pair of gloves in the January sales / transfer window.........

There is Still everything to play for and forever to play it in!!

He might be better at hiding his disappointment than McLeish but Villa are still rubbish and the club is still cheating the fans.

I am in the Lambert camp on this. I honestly see us going on a little run and flying up the table. as for the games against the supposed top 4/5 they do not hold the fear they used to as we know that Lamberts way to take on these teams is to have a go at them. Newcastle were lucky to get a point against us and Spuds should have been a goal or two down before we fell behind. we have goals in us. The defence is looking tighter. It will all come together. I still see a top half finish and a trip to Wembley. Keep the faith. Some fans seem to have the backbone of a jellyfish. When times are a little tough then we will be stronger by sticking together and 'supporting' the players and managers through the challenging times. Creating an air of despair doesn't help at all. Grow some balls ans stand up for your club. We are Aston Villa and we do not roll over for anyone.

I am with VOTH on this one

To suggest that the worst start since '86 deserves a round of applause, definitely takes some brass balls.

The current malaise at Villa Park bears striking resemblance to decline leading up to relegation in 87. Crown jewels sold off (Barry, Milner, Young, Downing) and being replaced by sub-par players. I was unsure about the quality brought in before the window, with few proven players being brought, and it appears these fears could prove to come true. At the rate we are going we could be so far gone by January we could bring in Messi in January and it will be too late.

there might be country miles but we do need to start picking up points right now, v Norwich would be a great time to do so!
