Benteke Dropped Because Of Scotland Goal

Benteke Dropped Because Of Scotland Goal

Paul Lambert has revealed that Christian Benteke has now been dropped following his international goal against Scotland!

In one of the stranger pre match press conferences Lambert talked about racism, the international fixtures and funnily enough, Fulham.

Paul firstly confirmed that contrary to some reports, the players will be sporting the 'Kick It Out' t-shirts pre game at Fulham:

'I don't see any issue with that at all. The lads will go and do it. Contrary to some reports saying they weren't going to, that is totally misinformed and I'm not happy with that. The lads will back it, and quite rightly so.'

Lambert continues to explain that there's no place for racism in football and his opinion it's about time something was done about it, other than simply talking about doing something.

As for the key question about Benteke's goal against Scotland, Lambert said simply:

'He's dropped!'

Before adding:

'Christian is playing in a right top Belgium side and more than holding his own. For someone who is only 21 and the way he is performing and what he will do for this club will be terrific. This kid can be a right top player.'

And Fulham:

'They are a good side and I thought that last season. But we will go with a lot of confidence to try and win.'

To end, Lambert discussed the rumours of an unhappy Darren Bent:

'I have never had a problem. I have a laugh and joke with him in the week like I do with every other player, there's never been a problem. I understand players get frustrated when they are left out, I'd be more worried if they weren't frustrated.'

He adds that Bent hasn't come knocking on his door, has continued to have a laugh with him and give his all in training. As for the rumours of them two not speaking, he adds:

'I don't worry because I know it's not true.'

His point is exactly what I was trying to say. 'I'd be more worried if they weren't frustrated at being left out'... the other option is those who take the wages and care not a jot!

The obvious answer is to play Bent and Benteke together..... no brainer really.

I would expect no less from Lambert. He is a proud Scot so to have the man who has probably knocked Scotland out of the World Cup playing for him would be intolerable. ;-)

Lambert is a class act, the best managers keep the atmosphere relaxed and get the players enjoying thmeselves having a laff n all that i watched a few documentries on Sir Af Ramsey Matt Buby Bob Paisley etc they all did this shelterd the players from criticism but keeping a good feeling within the camp, Bent and Bentek is the pair i would play Gabby's pace coming off the bench could nick it for us if things are kept tight.

Bent and Benteke up front, Gabby and Nzog on a wing each and Ireland just behind the front 2. Loads of goals there, but might need five at the back as well and not bother with a midfield!
