Bowery Aims To Take His Chance

Jordan Bowery has said it's up to him to prove he deserves a shot at the club, even though Paul Lambert has faith that he can compete at this level.

Speaking to the Official Site Bowery said everything you'd expect him to following his rise from the lower leagues, praising the clubs' history, heritage and facilities and saying it was the perfect place for him to develop further especially as everybody at the club had made it easy for him to adjust, and fit right in, but also tellingly given Paul's hopes for young and hungry players he also said:

'The gaffer has made it easy for all us new guys too, he's made it clear we're here on merit and that we're good enough to compete at this level. He's very driven, focused and determined and he's made it clear what he expects from us. The club has got a great history and we know about it, it's a responsibility that we have to live up to that history and try to play our game and get the club to where it should be.'

Nice to hear a player who has been given a great shot from nowhere really acknowledging that it's now up to them to make the most of that chance instead of just being pleased the chance came. Some good reports about Bowery coming out from Gordon Cowans and the U21s games, so he's definitely going to get a shot at some point I think this season.

hope he gets a chance and ends up the bestest buy in the whole land! Good luck to him. I can't comment, I haven't seen him play and most usually for me, I know nothing!
The Fear
They all seem keen as mustard to prove themselves. Good signs, hope they all make it... will they though? Only time will tell.
Pride of Lions
I've seen him play twice and he is the real deal, he has more in the locker than Gabby, Fonz and Weiman put together. Sid can't heap enough praise on him, ..... he has everything it takes to be a top player if all goes to plan. He will play his part this season and should begin to step up very soon. UTV

Respect your opinion Astonmilan. Hope you are right.

Astonmilan what you say seems too good to be true, but I hope you're right!

Id love one of the Lower League to really make a point and shut up the critics of the transfer policy... I think Lowton has been excellent but its difficult for a FB to make such a statement unless he is performing like Leighton Baines...

Dont know much about the lad other than what I have read.Be strange if he turns out to be the big hit rather than Bentke.Lets hope they both make it. Delighted to see how you rate him Aston Milan could prove a very usefull ace up the sleeve later in the season.UTV

Exciting to hear that astonmilan would be great if he can break through at some point and if we've uncovered a gem, would be about time as we've bought a good few duds in the last 10 seasons or so and wasted a great deal of money.
The Fear
I think PL shows a preference for young players who have come through the 'hard school' of lower league football and learned their trade there, rather some of the pampered players who come through a top clubs academy. He may be right. Hopefully at VP we will see results from both. Personally I haven't seen Bowery (only on AVTV) but great to hear such positive things about him. By the way I thought Benteke was excellent against Scotland as well. Linked play up very cleverly. Liverpool in the 60's and 70's always recruited from the lower leagues (Clemence, Neal, Keegan etc), taught them the 'Liverpool way' and they didn't do too bad, did they? I know the game has changed, but still quite happy that we are giving this policy a chance
