Stevie Stan On Leftback Battle

Steve Staunton has said that he believes Villa are well equipped in the leftback spot with the competition that Joe Bennett and Eric Lichaj bring.

Speaking to the Official Site our former left footed legend (yes he gets that status simply from scoring from a corner kick!) said of the duo:

'Eric has come through the ranks and he's done very well, I've been impressed. Young Joe looks a terrific prospect too. He's got a lovely left foot and a bit of pace, which I wouldn't know anything about!'

Yes for all his left footed charms and memories, 'high, long and to the left', speed was an asset Stan wasn't really blessed with.

Staunton also comments that whilst Eric isn't a natural left back his tenacity in that position will serve as perfect competition that will push both of them on to improve and develop further.

Going to be interesting to see who wins the battle for more games really, Lichaj has had his wobbly moments, but that's something that has affected Bennett as he adjusts to the league aswell.

Currently, I'd go for Lichaj too. He has that little bit more experience all round.
