Transfer Talk - Striker Linked To Villa

We have a brief 'sky sports understands` for you!

Yup, January transfer window talk already.

Sky Sports say that Villa and Newcastle are both interested in Burnley striker Charlie Austin.

The 23-year-old has 15 goals in 12 games for Burnley and is at least used to playing in claret and blue! Total goals according to Wikipedia is 28 in 54.

Sky say Lambert might be in the market for a striker with doubts over Darren Bent`s future.

Lads whats concerning me a great deal is Austin is another young unproven with rumours of Bent wanting out or inked to Liverscouse we are releasing our probably only top class player for cheaper altrnaives, this club needs to add quality not release thelast drippings it has imo

110% spot on AstonDB9. Or is Lambert continuing Idiots work in preparing us for the Championship with Championship "quality" players....... just wondering.....

Think he's a bit above Championship quality but agree that selling off Bent would be foolish at this point. Don't really think there's any substance to this just Sky putting 2 and 2 together. Dan Gosling seems a more logical option in January and is more of a Lambert-type buy ie. a young talented player who he could get the best out of. I think a good buy would be someone like Henderson who we could get on the cheap and can play wide or in the middle so he would fit with Lamberts alternating 4-1-2-1-2 and 4-3-3 holding formations.

Pride, you are talking pants. We are not heading to the championship and your love in for DB9 is completely unjustified given his current performances and work rate. He has become complacent IMHO, and has had more than enough game time at the top of the pitch in a variety of formations but to no avail. And when he doesn't score the DB lovers will proclaim the failure of everyone else around him in not getting the ball to his feet 6 yards out. Having travelled home and away and having watched him week in week out I am, quite frankly, fed up of him. I mean, in the last home game that was the first time I think I've ever seen the guy take a shot from outside of the box. Charlie Austin would be a good addition.

We have a hidden gem in Bowery, he already looks a better player than Gabby, Fonz and Weiman put together. As for Bent, he isn't the saviour of this club, people go on about his goals in the Prem and compare him to Rooney and Drogba .... Bents goals stats are 56% penalties compared to Rooney 12% and Drogba 16% ... he isn't as prolific as you might think. We wouldn't be able to sell him anyway as no top club has ever bothered with him and not many could pay his £85k a week salary. He either starts putting the effort in or sulks on the bench.

er....more than half of the 170-odd goals he has scored are penalties....? That seems "statistically unlikely" to me...ie, pants.

Darren Bent has scored 99 career penalties in 12 seasons (including this one)? I'd double check that! Lambert would be stupid to get rid of one of the best goalscorers in the league.

As a fairly regular user of VV 'front page' I can't remember many (any) people comparing Darren Bent to Rooney or Drogba. 85K is chicken feed compared to some of the salaries in the EPL. DB9 isn't world class, true, but then neither are Villa. People 'go on' about his goals in the EPL because that is what he's there for. If he's 'sulking' when he's on the bench then good. Would anybody prefer it if he was smiling? Maybe all of DB9's detractors could persuade Messi or Ronaldo to move to B6. Perhaps we could all have a whip 'round to pay their wages?
