Gardner Remains Upbeat On Road To Recovery

Gary Gardner has been chatting to the press as he continues to recover from a second anterior cruciate ligament injury, and he's said that Ron Vlaar is the perfect role model for him to have.

Speaking to the E&S Gardner described Vlaar as a 'machine' and living proof that a player can return successfully from two such serious injuries:

'You look at Ron now and he's like a machine and he has done the injury twice. It just gives you confidence that you can come back. The surgeon I have, Andy Williams, I've got massive respect for him. He's got me back once and I know he'll get me back again.'

It's now been a month since Gardner underwent the knife and he explains that he feels fine, he's walking, talking, swimming and cycling already so within 6 months he believes he'll be back playing.

'It's hard to say whether I'm ahead of schedule because it's a big injury. The main hing is that I come back stronger than I was, I know I will be.'

Cruel blow for Gardner to suffer it twice, albeit in different legs, especially as he was still playing catch up on game time and trying to make his mark in the first team, but his attitude is spot on though, he came back from it before and he will do again.

Such and unlucky young man. I think his attitude is spot on though and sure he'll come back stronger. Lets just hope he's had his fair share of injuries and they are behind him now.
